It's doing poor compared to the Wii, and relatively poor in Others, compared to the PS3.

How is the PS3 doing in America and Japan compared to the Wii. How is it doing compared to the PS2? How is the 360 doing compared to the original Xbox?

Microsoft is focusing on building a brand name. Sony is focused on destroying theirs in the name of short term profit. This mainly entails allowing presumptive 3rd party exclusives go to the 360 on launch, so next gen, Tekken, Final Fantasy, and DMC won't be so presumptive, as Sony brands. It's called "coasting." It's enough to beat the 360 this gen, in Sony's strongest territory, at least, but you'll find as time passes, it won't serve them well. It's what you do when you're not willing to spend money maintaining your brand. You rest on your laurels. Granted, Sony isn't doing this entirely, as they have recently decided to improve focus on first party games, in response to harsh criticism. However, damage has already been done. The 360 has better 3rd party support this generation, and that's never something Sony has had to worry about.

The PS3 catches the 360, and it has had nothing to give it any help. Now for the rest of the year Sony has major exclusives basically every week, and 360 has titles that only intrest Americans. With the holiday approching the Price cut on the 360 becomes less and less relevent every day. If people want a system they will pay the price during the holidays, and that is why a cut at this time in the year has never made any sense. Here is the next couple of weeks for PS3:

this week - PES 09
next week- Little Big Planet
3rd week - Motorstorm and the LBP bundle
4th week - Resistance 2

Now consider that Motorstorm 1 and Resistance Fall of Man both outsold Gears of War in Others, and the picture starts to look bad for the 360. This year Sony also adds Little Big Planet which will sell better than any other title on PS3/360 when things are all said and done. They have Home, and the 160GB w/ 70euros to spend on the PSN out of the box still yet to come in November. It is funny how xbox history repeats over and over again. The only people that want this system are th most hardcore of gamers. For most of them it is the second or third console. People do not like Microsofts attitude, and tactics, unless that changes Xbox will always be the same.

Others numbers are what was anticipated given 360 % drop week by week.

Looks like another WW for 360 this week over PS3, but probably by 20-30K vice 40K+. With LBP coming PS3 might actually outsell it WW for a few weeks, we shall see. It will outsell it in Others for sure though during LBP week +.

look at sony , look at the ps3 , where is it now?look at how SEGA felt and how Ninty was crushed 2 times for 2 generations in what did the brand name help them?

sony can afford more losses but they don't want to because they want to start strong with ps4 , if they drop the price they are gonna have a hard time with the ps4 even harder form what it is now

Nice DS and Wii numbers. 360 sales are going down despite being really cheap, which isn't a good thing.

Forgive me, but I think your post is a little optimistic when it comes to the effect Home will have on new console purchasers. Also, I wouldn't be too sure LBP can outsell Gears 2. Finally, it's not just Americans who like Fable 2 and Gears 2. You're mistaken.

As for history staying the same, that's fine. If Sony continues at this rate of brand degration, there won't be a PS4. Also, the 360 is actually far more successful than the original Xbox, which means that brand has gained ground. Now, applay that same reasoning from the PS2 to the PS3, and you'll see that your basic assumptions are ignorant.

Well, the Wii is also destroying the PS3 by millions. In regards to the price cuts, I am not certain about the EU and JP but the PS3 has received more price cuts in America than the 360. It is not even two years old and the PS3’s price has been slashed by $200. Conversely, the 360 has been out three years and has only slashed its price by $100. 

The 360 is doing fine. 

How? the Ps3, wii are very reliable, while the 360 , you know......

MS is competing well and lowering their prices to avoid being passed by, but it will happen eventually. MS is buying its brand name instead of building it.
