Forums - Sales - This gen console war is over

Far from over I would say, too early to deside.

Maybe, I'm at work, bored and being a bit of a sob at the mo. Still think Manhunt is good, late night lights out fun though. Maybe Sony Europe are a little better because I've only found them helpful in the past

assumption is the mother of all f**k ups

This war is not over yet, not even the current dominating can declare top place. This gen will take a longer period of time to decide which console will come out on top. I mean look at it this way, we still haven't see any major big announcement from 3rd party developers making game for the Wii. If this trend continue well into next holiday season we'll most likely see a major shift of user jumping on board to a HD console. Then there is the other major factor when sony finally decide to drop their system to a mass market point. I personally don't think nintendo can continue to sell high numbers without backing by 3rd parties support.

massmarket price point ~160 usd
I don't see how people keep saying 300 dollars is massmarket

If I'm not mistaken a PC of equal power & tech as a console will run a game worse than the console. Something to do with being a jack of all trades as my (limited) knowledge recalls

That depends entirely on how good the people that made the game are. I've seen 2D games with 2D sprites bog down mmy Desktop, it was a game my friend made very quicklike. I've also seen some seriousy good optimization in some games. It's the same thing as it is on consoles.

aside from the obvious 360 cornbread the OP is loving, the one thing that I will say that can be a given, next gen, you will see MS and Sony, Nintendified in their business model. What you will see is:

1.) A GREATER emphasizes on first party titles. Relying on third party exclusives to justify your console to a consumer is OVER. You'll get a few 3rd party exclusives, but MS & Sony both are seeing that a GREAT first party lineup is a difference maker.

2.) If MS & Sony are serious about not starting with profit lose, they will look to make a profit off of the consoles, I wouldn't expect a leap in graphics over this gen.

3.) More game balance. So for those of you that like to classify games as "Casual" or "Hardcore" those lines will be farther blurred...

I don't know how M$ will be able to fullfill your first point considering that they lost Bungie and hey just closed Ensemble, their most respected developer.

I think at the end....

Wii
Ps3
X360

Microsost has always relied on 3rd parties on their platforms

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game
