Forums - Sony - PS3 Still Searching for "Defining" Title !!!!

I can get behind the LBP idea--it goes along with the 'mascot' idea I'm always talking about. If properly marketed, Sackboy could become the face of the PS3 to the general public.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Sony had a 4 year exclusive deal with Rockstar. All 3 Grand Theft Auto games were timed exclusives for the PS2 and the PS2 had all the advertising for it.

Doesn't make what I said any less true. The only people who thought of it as playstation games were the ones (like fury mentioned) that thought everything was playstation or thought there was nothing else in existance except playstation. (basically your originally statement was foolish and wrong)

(GTA VC and GTA SA came out less then a year after the ps2 counterparts.)

ask about playstion you will get the follow answers.

Final fantasy
Gran turismo
God of war (impresive considering its new)
metal gear solid
Devil may cry
kingdom hearts.

This is what happens when you have a library of dozens of exclusive franchises that are all in line with the best in the industry. The Playstation brand has never had 1 or 2 defining games, but instead a well balanced protfolio of games that were all top notch. Having such a wide range of top tier games has made the Playstation somthing differant to every owner.

For me the Playstation is all about having the best games across all genres, because games are what I love, and I want to be able to experiance every type of entertainment in this medium. For me I love having God of War, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Socom, Twisted Metal, Uncharted, Jak, Team Ico, Resistance, Killzone, Ratchet and Clank, MLB The Show, Final Fantasy, Motorstorm, and more. All of those games have somthing differant. Even in the same genre Sony has a great amount of diversity. Games like Jak, and Ratchet while both platformers, each game has a very unique feel, and through Sly Cooper in the mix and you have a three year rotation on Platformers which all feel freash. This is the same across all of the generes for the Playstation Brand. I love having games made 1 to 1 for the system that take full advantage of all of its potential. This helps ever aspect of the game to be at a level unachivable buy multiplatform games.

For my brother Playstation is only about Madden, MLB The Show, Final Fantasy, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, and Killzone. For my dad Playstation is all about watching movies, playing his music, and games like, Socom, Metal Gear Solid, and Jak. My grandpa, and my uncle look at Playstation only as the Gran Turismo system. This is really the beauty of the Playstation brand. It is a common ground that means a lot to many differant people for many differant reasons. There is not one game that defines the playstation, and to be honest there is not even one feature that defines the Playstation. It is just a name that means reliabilty, long term support, fun, and entertainment. Playstation is Personality.

The defining PS3 title is a Blu-Ray disc playing Kaz Hirai saying "599 US Dollars" over and over and over again.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

LBP may be the one.

PS3 is doing pretty damn well for not having a defining title (outselling 360 over the same amount of time).  It will be interesting to see what happens if it gets one.

On the other hand, I don't think Sony consoles generally have had them as much as others (Mario, Sonic, Halo).  Sony has a huge number of compelling 1st party IPs, but none alone seem to define a system.

But Uncharted is soooo good!!!

Anyway, I think the way PS works is not to just have 1 defining title, like Mario or Halo, but to have quite a few PS franchises, and the PS3 is going to struggle a bit without GTA and FF, even with new ones like Resistance, Killzone (as a good franchise!) and most importantly Little Big Planet

hum ....we will see

About the xbox360, I think Gears of War really defines the xbox360 (at least until now)

Time to Work !

Fail.

God of War is the closest to define the PS3.

It will be Little Big Planet, God of War is only for hard core gamers.
