Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox 360 > PS3 in August. Is it a sign of things to come?

It's only going to get worse for the PS3 in North America in September. Sony needs to try to hold onto Japan and Europe and hope that Microsoft doesn't make inroads there and continue to syphon off even more PS2 gamers.

The PS2 userbase is up for grabs and it appears both the Wii and 360 are taking chunks of it (the Wii taking significantly more). It must be sobering for Sony execs to see the number of PS2 gamers buying competitor's consoles).

lol, The xbox is 199 now, it better kill the PS3. It better

fjb -- Exactly how is the Playstation 3 going to beat the Xbox 360 in North America when it's the same price as last year (during Christmas), and the Xbox 360 is $80 less for the base unit?

The Xbox 360 has a good chance, if Sony doesn't drop the price, to beat the Playstation 3 in North America by over 500,000 units or more in December alone.

500,000 is crazy, you need to stop being such an xbox 360 fanboy. if sony starts losing sales to 360 by a big margin, in NA, then they will be forced to drop the price. and if that happens, then thats the official nail in the coffin for the 360.

Weren't all the Madden 2008 ads with the 360 logo ?
That could explained...

10.000 or 20.000 less or more in one month in the US doesn't really matter IMO. The tide won't change because of that...
Winning Japan would be a huge success though.

Did you bother looking at the numbers from last year before you try to attack me?

The Xbox 360 outsold the Playstation 3 by 400,000 units last December. I am only advocating a 20% higher margin due to the price drop. How is 20% more such a big leap?

Also, I don't see how you can really "put a nail in the coffin" of the Xbox 360 when it's still selling around 200,000 units/month without major price drops in North America. The $100 price reduction on the Playstation 3 didn't put a nail in the coffin last year...What's different this time around?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Nope, I've seem plenty of madden ads with the PS3 logo. Although it's barely noticeable because the logo only appears for about at second at the very end and they don't show the PS3 at all during the commercial.

no, it won't, but in any case, a PS3 price drop will have a greater effect than a 360 price drop because the PS3 is more expensive.

Also, stickball, there's no way the 360 is going to beat PS3 sales by 500000 in December alone. Last year, when the PS3 was selling waaaaaaaay less in NA, the 360 sold 412000 more units in NA then the PS3.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

@ Death Im with you, stick is sounding REALLY cocky right now and in fact Microsoft may win september in america... who knows maybe even october or november... but if it is by a large margin like you stated Sony will end up in the point have to cut the price and in which if that happens Sony's ultimatly extremely valueable console will have an even lower price... all in all that could very well "Kill" or more or less "Letally Wound" the 360 lol thus imo probably putting the PS3 above the 360 indefenitly for the rest of each of the consoles lifetimes.

Now? I've seen him do nothing else but badmouth the PS every time he can.

But apparently moderators have more rights...

@pap okay yeah good point but im just talking about this specific time lol
