I'm getting one anyway, half an hour wont make a difference for me.

Absolutely! For instance, one of the biggest reasons I bought a second DS was for additional battery life =p
Anyhow, the PSP has a more powerful battery than the DS, yes, but it also uses WAY more power than the DS. Screens don't actually use much power - it's running the system itself that uses the most power, and the PSP has a disc spinner/reader. That's what uses the majority of the power, and why its battery life is so inferior to the DS's.

How much better is the battery life if you're doing remote play or playing off the memory card?

DS lite has a battery power of 20 hours, give or take. PSP has a battery life of 10 hours playing games, 12 hours playing music (with the screen off) and 3 hours playing movies.
DS has two screens and it's battery power is double that of PSP, kind of sad dontcha think? |
Probably because the psp is way more powerful. The ds is like a ps1 while the psp is like a ps2.
Ofcourse the psp would use more power.
also to the op. I think the best feature is the rumered ds3 support. How awesome would that be. And the fact that you can now plug it into a regular tv. and play games, whereas before you could only play games on a component supported tv. :P

Not to single you out, but since you are like the premier PSP advocate of this site they could make a PSP with no battery what-so-ever that plugs into a power outlet and you'd probably still buy it dude. |
Indeed... but seeing thats this update is a bit more than just an added battery draining option, I think I wont be the only one purchasing the 3000.
BTW: rumor has it that it will be compatible with the Dualshock 3 controller and it will be able to play games on SDTVs... now that would be interesting if true ;)

Carrying around an extra battery just so my portable device can have a decent battery life is not practical or sensible solution. It adds to the cost of the system, and hurts the portability. I want to eb able to throw it in my pocket and take it out klater and play. I don't want to have to cram a power cord or battery in there as well as my pocket has limited space.
That does disappoint me a bit, though I'm not worried about getting the 3000 model the 2000 model is the best anyway, I really wished they had figured out a way to reduce battery consumption cause 30 minutes no matter what anyone says it is a big deal, I've always been a hardcore handheld gamer and would kill batteries that would last over 20 hours (IE the GB series). I mostly keep my PSP plugged in while I play it but they should have figured out the battery life problem so it could at least equal its competition the DS.
MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"
Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000
On DS max brightness you get roughly 7-10 hours, several hours more than the PSP. on low brightness you get 20+, more than triple. Seems there is a big misconception about the DS battery life.

Well, most people have a flightbag with them when they fly, so most people will just use that instead of their pockets.
Why, oh why do they keep dropping its battery life? Sheesh, it's being outsold 2:1 to the DS, so Sony keeps remaking the system. I'm just waiting for them to add the new touch screen feature!
