Tales isn't all that huge.

They usually sell ~ 500K

But this gen, you can't expect Ps2 (or PSX) quality JRPG sales on any console.

Is ToV an entry in the main Tales series or is it a spinoff like ToS on the Wii? If it's the former, the numbers are disappointing, if it's the latter, then it's pretty good.

Standard numbers, summer seems to have slowed down the Japanese market approximately none at all.
Pitiful PS3 numbers, as usual, I'm actually starting to feel sorry for Sony now.

Nope. This is a main series Tales. The newest since Tales of the Abyss.
