Forums - Sales Discussion - Nintendo lying about third party dominance?

thats confusing. Looking at the chart nintendo showed. I shows that no system has even sold 60 million software titles. yet microsoft states that it has sold 67 million 3rd party software titles.

I don't know what kind of a point this article is attempting to make. It's stating that a graph from Nintendo (based on NPD figures) for 1st + 3rd parties doesn't match up with Microsoft numbers (based on NPD figures) for 3rd party sales alone.

Pity it looks like Microsoft doesn't know how to read graphs or something....the data nintendo provided was for the first 20 weeks of the launch of each console.

You should read this.

Nintendo presented the numbers in a different way than this article. Why is that so horrible?

- Total third party sales for the Xbox 360 since launch is currently 67,929,999 units, followed by the Wii at 33,394,311 units and the PlayStation 3 at 19,976,325 units.

Okay, they said first 19 months. That favours Nintendo slightly, but they won't present it in a way that favours X360 - come on!

- Third party sales for the Xbox 360 since the launch of the Wii and PS3 is 54,065,728 units, still almost double the Wii's 33,394,311 units.

This is also an OK way to present it, but it favours the X360 by heaps.

- If you take the total number of units sold and divide that by the number of titles released since November 2006, the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are selling more units per title on average than the Wii. This puts the Xbox 360 at 217,252 units per title, the PS3 at 156,065 units and the Wii at 132,517 units.

Well, duh! The Wii gets more titles, so they sell less in average. More competition = lower sales pr game. This is just a stupid way to do something.

If this was the difference Microsofts numbers would be much more relevant correct? Because they cover a longer period. Although I would be surprised if the Wii had more third-party support in its first 5 months.

Nintendo used the first 19 months of all 3 consoles to level the playing field.   Wii and PS3 had only been out for 19 months at that point.

Seems Microsoft and many media outlets have a hard time comprehending this simple to digest notion.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

What's really a shame is each chart is correct they're just displaying a different point. Nintendo is displaying a comparison that is only of a set time period and Microsoft is showing a total sales chart. Both very valid and good to know but both very different information especially considering the 360's head start.

The really sad part is, like in politics, spinning the info is very effective and at least a few people will believe it. Kind of like how McCain says Obama wants to raise taxes. He does but what they don't mention is his plan actually shows a raised burden at the top 5% and a lowered burden for the middle class which actually raises the total taxes taken in....

The article speak about sales since launch of the consoles until now, not the first 20 months of every sistem.

Ehh, then it's mean both are correct but use different information...right?
