SONY knows HIGH Mathematics to say that. 55 million in 3 years time is an easy target!!!!

Like if this dude came out and said "Sony at 70 million by 2011 or I will chop off my testicles"...this may be worth noting. Otherwise his words hold no water what so ever... |
For real. Kotaku had some chart showing that the best analyst was Pachter, who was right about 60% of the time. If I did my job right only 60% of the time... I wouldn't still have a job.
I think there should be more consequences for these guys being wrong, and dis, I rather like the one you proposed.
The problem with this is he used the screen digest and IDG predictions... and just took what was implied by them.
Wasn't screen digest the one where Wii and 360 experianced negative sales for some reason (while PS3 oddly had a massive 2009 of about 27 million) wheras IDG is the one predicting PS3 software will have sold more than Wii software.
-----
And I totally don't understand he PS2 thing.... you'd think perhaps it meant from 7th generation beginning, which includes late 2005 to 2011 fo PS2, but even then it has a long way to go, after all it has sold aproximately 27 million since the X360 launch until the end of 2007. (just over 2 years worth) but so far this year it has sold under 4 million, likely ending the year around 8-9 million.
That's 36 million, which is impressive, but it is obviously slowing down... if in 2008 it manages 9 million then for it to reack 90 million it needs 54 million spread between 2009, 2010 and 2011. (assuming the "by 2011" means end of 2011)
So he is predicting the PS2 sales to rise???
-
Unless, perhaps he is combining DS and PSP into the same generation (stupidly considering they don't usually follow the same 5-6 year pattern as consoles)
That way the PS2 has sold 46 million since DS launch... probably ending this year around 50 million, leaving 40 million over 3 years.... so even then he is predicting a PS2 increase in sales.
I think there must be some mistake with the PS2 figure he predicts.

| EaglesEye379 said: For the people who really think that 360 will be 40m by 2011... At the end of this year will be PS3's 2nd year anniversary and current VGChartz projections show it will reach 21m. That is 10.5m on average per year. Hence we have 70-21=49m left to reach this 70m target by 2011. Do the math. You think PS3 will sell 16.33m a year for the next 3 years? Mmmmkay... yea because the last time I checked PS3 was outselling 360 4:1. |
No, I don't believe any thinking person says that it will only be 40 million. Just the fanboys. Moreover, I don't think any thinking person reallythinks it will sell less then 4- mill a year either.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.
@HappySquirrel
So all we have to do now is pick which one to laugh at: 24m PS3 a year or 4m 360 a year? I cant really see whether 1 Jan or 31 Dec makes it sound any smarter.
I just think its a bad case of bad triangulation on bad old data on old mentalities on how this gen will pan out.
Update: Wonder how long I can keep up this forced comment about bad triangulation mistake when its clearly a bad case of.....
Analysing this guys anaysis
Total sales as of 2011
DS 150
Wii 80
PS3 70
PSP 70
360 40
Total sales between now and 2011
DS 72
PS3 56
Wii 50
PSP 33
360 20
100*Total sales as of 2011/Current sales
DS 192%
PS3 500%
Wii 233%
PSP 189%
360 200%
As everyone else in this thread has stated, Wii will be much higher, and PS3 much lower. As for the 360, I've stopped trying to predict sales for it - at the start of the gen i thought it would be at 30 million when it stopped selling, and I've had to keep revising that upwards
And it seems the PS2 will, like the Wii suffer negative sales (of 50 million)

your welcome ;)

Chris Deering may be a former SCEE president but he's obviously still a paid up member of the SDF. At least he's smart enough to be talking about 3 years hence; everyone will have forgotten about his estimates when that time comes.
