If what ioi says is true, Sony sucks at selling the PS3 if they cant even keep the store in stock after a year and a half and not selling that high. Even with the PS3 40 PS3 80 thing. This should not be an issue for a company like Sony.

Im pretty sure Sony are intentionally phasing out the last of the 40g stock to make way for the 80g

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Well, it's a supply and demand issue to be honest. I can't imagine that many people want to buy the 40gb if they have the knowledge a new system with upgraded controller and disk space is coming soon. And those who are unknowing of the upgrade may walk into stores where stock is depleted. It's a double whammy.

Right. Anyhow, while shortages at launch where a big shot in their own feet, this time I think Sony chose quite a good timing, the summer is getting hotter right now and more and more people will go to the sea and will play less with consoles and PCs, and this will go on on a higher degree up to mid August, and on a lesser degree up to the end of Summer, so knowing that a sales decrease was unavoidable, making it happen just when it would have happened anyway is a good move, better than MS dropping price and announcing the big FF XIII blow when Summer will dampen their beneficial effects.

Amazon is not a reliable source for sales data.

Gamestop has bundles in stock too ( and is number 1 us retailer for video games, is that reliable enough ?).

so does BestBuy, Target, WallMart...

And they have had it in stock for at least 6 days...

SOME Gamestops, BB, Target, Walmart have SOME 80GBs THIS week. That is a totally different situation to a couple of months ago where all retailers had full supply of 40GBs and sales were hitting 50-60k per week. 40GBs are only now available online and 80GBs are coming in limited quantities. That said, this weeks sales (27th - 2nd Aug) are already higher since there was a decent restock at many stores on Monday

And yes, Amazon is not a reliable source!

Wow, so if the sales hold through, that means more than 60k for next week.

Don't know why people are still talking about it to be honest. There is zero indication the PS3 has/had supply problems last week. People who work in the stores said it was bullshit, people who went into the stores to check said it was bullshit, Sony haven't come out and said expect shortages. Somehow MS got the new 60GB out ok. If they had sold low numbers would people use the excuse about "phasing" the old ones out? Plus add to this there is no confirmation/comment from Sony about it and seeing as they are a shares company they would be bound by stock exchange to inform their customers of the restraint like other companies do. That has not happend so thus it is bullshit. All this evidence points to it being bull and we have just 1 guy saying there is/was a problem. We should just accept it was a bad week for Sony and move on with our lives..

or...maybe you can accept that there were ACTUAL shortages, so you can move on with your own life.

I would accept it if there was evidence for it so don't be stupid. Where is the proof in these claims hey? None what so ever. Look at the sales for the past few weeks and yoy get this picture

19th July - 57k PS3  - 360 117k

12th July - 72k PS3 - 360 48k

5th July - 59k PS3 - 360 52k

28th June - 56k PS3 - 360 56k

Meaning the PS3 average for what the past month has been about 55k? So this week the PS3 sells 28k which is nearly 30k less then the previous week. There are many reasons why people might not have bought a PS3, the effects of E3 with the FFXIII thing, the fact the 360 was cheaper and rumours around the PS3 might get a price cut and so on. A loss of 30k does not sound like a restraint to me, it sounds like an excuse for poor sales, and the evidence looks and supports that fact wether you believe it or not. Until we have someone at Sony come out and address their stockholders like both MS and Nintendo did with their restraints then this is bullshit.

And? So what if their were shortages? It was still a bad week, due to the shortages. The bright side being that once the supply is fixed things should go back to normal.
