For me... it's just boring.... I run, I shoot.... uh..... that's it.... not really much of a story to it either. Just feels mediocre. I like the multi but not by much since the game play it self feels so empty.....

i dont hate the game, its just not my cup of tea.
i have played Halo 1 and i couldnt get into it, but my brother loves the game but he will only play it online with voice chat on so it can tease all the *in his words* "Yanks"
I enjoyed halo 1, halo 2 has ok single player never played it online, i have yet to play halo 3.
overall i think halo series is decent series and i can see why people would like it
The main reason is because Halo has a large and very vocal fanbase. Those who bought an Xbox basically had only Halo as a decent game for a long, long time and so it became the face of the system, and what all Xbox adopters rallied around. I think the amount of pure "OMG Halo is so awesome!!!!!!!!111!!" just gets on other gamers' nerves, and so they tend to hate Halo.

its' funny cuz I love the 360, but not Halo...It is not a bad game, just don't really like FPS.
Im not sure that everyone hates it per say. I think it's partially b/c everyone that does like it doesn't feel the need to run out and tell the world while ppl hate it do. The negative will always ring louder than the positive. A lot of ppl still really like Halo, I dont like the multiplayer in H3 as much as H2 but the story was much better IMO. Though Halo 1 was the best in terms of story, but thats my opinion.
Everytime im on Halo an average of 250k to 450k players are on and thats not weekends. I believe COD has the most unique users per week (as in Major Nelson's updates) but I found an article not to long ago that said Halo3 had highest average of users on at any given time. I can't find the article atm but when I switch games, the numbers I see certainly show that.

This is my reason as well. IMO, the game is solid but not bad or good. I bought my 360 a couple months before for Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata. The future release of LO also convinced me to get one. The Halo 3 fiasco was a painful time for me to be a 360 owner. Practically everyone I knew that had a 360 was just really really into Halo and they all expected me to think it's God's gift to gaming. When I told them I'm not that into it, they looked at me wierd (why would I ever think of getting a 360). I was about to sell the system then, but I'm very glad now I'm not with all the jRPGs coming out.
Luckily, COD4 rectified the situation and was a quality game that deserved it's sales. The HL games will be the best shooter franchise forever.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
