Why do we care what Gamespot rates games?

civ revolution from the demo i played looks to be a great game. it will surely have long lastability but the only thing i didnt like was the turn based system.

I stopped even looking long ago.  When they give your favorite games 4 or 5 and ones you dislike or have no interest in 9.5, then you know it's not worth even taking the time to look.

I was wondering... can any strategy fans here explain to me the difference between Civilization and Total War? I'm a huge fan of the latter series but all the talk about Civ got me interested again. Sadly, commentators on strategygames tend to be somewhat... dull. So I hardly read any of it...

Total War is a real-time strategy game. Civilization is turn-based. That sums up most of the difference right there. (Both are excellent games in their particular genres. I would give them both a try.)

To me, watching the reviews for Civ Revolutions has been fascinating. There seems to be widespread agreement that this is pretty much a game that should be scored in the 7-8 range, for being a lot of fun but not having all that much depth. Yet quite a few of the "big" gaming sites have been throwing out some suspiciously high scores (IGN also gave the game an 8.8 score). Hmmm. Makes you wonder what's going on behind the scenes, eh?

There's also a 9.5 review out there from something called "Tom's Reviews", which is so clearly a piece of viral marketing, it's just hilarious to read. Here, take a look:

The whole process has been fascinating to watch. The evidence is really starting to pile up on the whole review issue...

My Website

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

Why not ? It's not the only website, which gives the game a great score. On Gamerankings it has an average score of 83% !!!!

I own the game. It deserves a 9.0 imo.

The DS version is NOWHERE NEAR A 9. Just stay away from it if you like civilization games.
