Forums - General Discussion - The 2008 US Presidential Election - Any opinions?

Guiliani shouldn't be allowed to run for public office. He should be happy people apparently forgot about how incompetent he was before 9/11.

I'm thinking of Obama, but I don't know if the fact that he's black will hurt him in the long run. I don't want to see any assassination attempts. I know plenty of people who like him, but are going to vote against him just to save his life. Perhaps there are lots of people out there that feel that way. It's sad that in our country, we can't simply vote on whomever we want. :(

I think Colin Powell could have been the first black President and a very good one.  It's just too bad that the Hawks in Washington used him in order to justify war.

Well, mainly I hope the American People will vote for a wise leader, one to solve problems around the world instead of creating new ones. One who at least also looks at environmental concerns instead of always putting economic growth in first place. And maybe a president with enough balls to finally start putting serious restrictions on gunlaws as well.

Ahhhh ahahhaha ROFLMFAO.  I have completely and utterly lost any hope that the American political system will ever have a leader that works in the best interest of the people of These United States.  Everything political these days serves one purpose -- cater to the special interests, minorties, and outspoken fringe groups to garner enough votes to stay in power.  It's only about power and money any more.  The american people be dammed.  Case in point:  the current immigration "reform" bill....  Closed door hearings and "announed" with absolutely no text for anyone to read.   It's all a sham at this point.  Gee, do I sound bitter?

I hate trolls.

Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

I don't think either Obama or Hillary can actually win against Guiliani or Fred Thompson ...

Its going to play out much like the last election, the left will vote for the democrat candidate regardless on who he/she is and or what he/she stands for while the right votes for the republican candidate regardless on who he is or what he stands for. The election is going to be won by capturing the votes of the moderates.

Guiliani/Thompson will focus on moderate Americans knowing full well that the religious right will vote for them because they fear "President Clinton/Obama." Clinton/Obama will run a campaign against "George Bush's America" which will play very well to the left but will miss the moderate voters because they understand that George Bush is not on the Ballot.

Ron Paul!

Hillary seams like the worse candidate, really socialistic-sounding, but hey I'm not an american so it's really not my choice.

I love Ron Paul too. Awesome candidate. He'll need to have the very definition of a "grassroots" campaign to win, since the mainstream media will never give him the time of day until he is at least leading in the polls. Its kind of scary to watch the Fox News post-debate coverage over on YouTube(the first debate, not tonight's), when Paul won the debate according to the polls, and the commentators kept reinforcing that it was a fluke and that Paul is not a frontrunner.

Al Gore would probably lose his appeal as soon as he started running. I think he's really enjoying the freedom of his environmental campaign, as opposed to a political campaign. I doubt he will run, but he'd probably have an easier time scooping up the moderates than Clinton or Obama.

Guiliani is a shmuck, and its a shame the media decided to exalt him in the midst of 9/11. Remove W's Texas schtick and replace it with a New Yorker schtick, and switch out some superficial policy differences which will affect nothing, and its like re-electing W.

America has grown tired of McCain, and don't want to elect someone they fear will escalate the war. He's nearly out of the running already.

If Fred Thompson runs, America will grow tired of him too. Sensing America is tired of McCain, this is just the next guy hardline GOPers want to call the next Reagan. If he becomes a serious candidate, I think America will quickly feel like they've seen this act already.

Romney is just money at this point, but I do like that he's talking a lot about optimism, which is something America is lacking right now, and will probably register with most Americans.

Obama is just a name and a face at this point. I don't think America has a problem electing a black man, but no one knows what he's all about yet. Dems just wanted to call him the next Jack Kennedy the first chance they got.

Clinton has a big section of America who simply WILL NOT vote for her, but she's still the frontrunner. It seems like she's been running since Bill was first elected. A campaign with her would be very, very tedious. She'll just play everything as safe as possible. She's not as good a politician as Bill was, but that doesn't mean she is going to make any of the radical changes America needs if elected, just as Bill didn't. Bill did some great things, like balance the budget, but that's not enough right now.

Edwards is the only guy who has outright said his vote for the war was a mistake, and I respect him a lot for that... But I'll still take the guy who didn't vote for the war--Ron Paul.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Ron Paul would still be the #1 candidate. He's ultra-conservitive, and anti neocon/hawk.

Until he can gain some ground, I'd take Fred Thompson instead.

IMO, theres no way Obama (a black muslim) could eventually win. Its not because he's black, but with the war on terror, the fact he was Muslim until just randomly joining a church for political reasons won't help him.

But who knows, the media can spin any candidate into whatever image they want.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

A couple of things to you guys...

Obama is not really Black in the sense that many of you think as Black.  He may look Black, but his mother is White, and his Dad was an African citizen.  Obama was not a descendant of slaves, which is why you see some Black intellectuals annoyed at the media portrayal of Obama as the first potential Black president.

On the religion thing, Obama isn't a Muslim.  He belongs to this Church "United Church of Christ"

I'm not making any of this up..I think he just tends to confuse alot of people since our politicains are usually so white bread..

I dont care if he was green.

I like hillary. I dont care if she has a box, or a snake. XD

I think she will help me the best of all of the canidates. tha'ts it.

I dont like republicans. I am registered independant. And I voted independant in the last election. I do NOT like alot of the democrats. It's a bad day in hell when there's a republican that I like.

I normally vote straight independant unless it's someone that I *really* like.

Hillary has the best chances of helping the countrys medical problems, taxes, corperate/employee issues, and many other things that effect me on a daily basis.

Hmmm, this is sort of a who do I dislike the least sort of elections. Let's see from what I know of the candidates I guess I would rank them like follows. From left to right, left being dislike the most. Edwards-Clinton-Guiliani-Obama-McCain I don't know enough about the rest of these guys to have an opinion.
