@twesterm
I really recommend getting to the 20th hour.....the game goes on an upard trend from there like Ninty has gone up from GC sales...I mean this literally..
even if you think a game fails if it doesn't get interesting by the 10th hour...

No.
I've tried twice now to get to that legendary 20th hour and both times the game has bored me to tears. A game should not take 20 hours to get good. That is the sign of a terrible shitty game.
I only played it once and barely managed that
while the other ones I have played through atleast 5 times or more
so you can geuss wich one I liked the least
and no it didnt feel like a FF game at all
A FF games should always be turnedbased so I have my doubts about FFXIII
If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing
(mostly)
And shepherds we shall be,
For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints
FF12's development team wasn't comprised of the people from the FFX team as Square wanted to crank out more FF's and had already begun work on FF13.
I liked it a lot tbh, I felt it was a real step up from the weakest game in the series (X-2, seriously just a preteens j-pop mooshy dream).
@Red*Pokemon*trainer
thats why my expectations from FFXIII are MUCH higher!

Except his whole story explanation is complete BS. The story is just reused Star Wars mostly with some Tactics Ogre thrown in for good measure.
I mean they rip lines practically directly from star wars. What with the "She airship enough for you kid." etc.
Just about every freaking RPG is about an empire falling apart... besides they all had british accents, if you wanted to ascribe any great thinking to it it'd have to be english coloniolism.
Though in reality they were doing what they've been doing since Final Fantasy Tactics, just remaking the same game(Tactics Ogre).... but changing a few things to try and make it better, but just making the story much worse since you just can't arbitrairly change things.
Guy needs to move on.

@Kasz216
I think because of majority of the people thinking like you FFXII under-performed....also you are talking as if the tactics team is crap....I accept that the FF team didn't make FFXII but give the tactics some credit for the great innovations...
beside Star wars has a very deep story...so copying it isn't exactly bad
& if every RPG is about an empire falling apart, every FPS is about a war, every mario is about saving the kidnapped princess peach..
but all of those types of games have excelled and are excelling..

Ok, FPS and Mario games have rehashed story after rehached story but let me ask you this: how many Mario or FPS games do you play for their brilliant story telling?
FFXII is a very good RPG. It has an amazing combat system that manages to give the most of control of all 3 party members out of all other real-time RPGs. This is the ADB system, an advanced version of the popular and successfull ATB system that is being used in every FF since IV with unfortunately the exception of X. The licenses grid is incomplete, as every character has the same one, however this doesn´t mean you can´t specialize your characters. It does actually way better than the the sphere-grid of FFX as it allows way more options of customization. FFXII features a huge world for a ps2 RPG with bigger cities and dungeons than every other FF and they all are beautiful. It also features a very wide and detailed collection of monsters, much bigger than every other FF game so far. Hunting rare and notorious monsters really becomes very fun and challenging as well. Honestly, you´ll never get bored with it if you love customizing your characters, exploring vast areas and hunting monsters. Also, the artistical design is very good and is done by none other than Yoshida, the guy behind Vagrant Story´s artwork. All in all, FFXII brought FF in the technical department way ahead. Actually, all the stuff that was missing in FFX is present in FFXII and in the best shape
What FFXII lacks is a strong story and character development. The political setting is good, but wasn´t developed enough and there´s practically no character interaction. Though the characters are interesting. If you´ll ever get bored in this game will be when you progress into the story, otherwise in the rest of the game it will be a great joy to explore new areas, further explore areas you left and hunt marks.
Imo, FFXII is the opposite of FFX. It features a great battle system, a good license grid, a vast world that you can walk it all if you want to, impressive monsters and a wide variety, lots of places to visit and majestic, big cities. All this stuff was missing in FFX, which had that utterly boring CTB system, that was even more worse than those of the 3 first FFs, and that rugid sphere grid that had little options. Though, the story and character development of FFX beats the crap out of FFXII´s.
