Poor PS3 Sales Means Smaller Losses

"Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation," Quotes from Sony’s CFO Nobuyuki Oneda.

Where are the 360 and PS3 graphs?

I'd like to see them too but probably for a different reason. A comparisson of the graphs will prove that Wii is going to stomp all over the PS3 and 360 this gen because Nintendo already has a signifigantly larger userbase and the software sales of MS and Sony's first party titles won't be anywhere close to 20%$ let alone 40% or 50%.

This means that Nintendo will have a huge huge advanteage to console exclusive titles and that doesn't even take into account 3rd party exclusives.

It's not that third party games don't sell, it's that Nintendo titles sell better

The red, makes the blue irrelevant. Third parties dont give a rats arse about how a game they DIDNT make sells. They care about how THEIR game sells. So if their games are selling, the fact that Nintendo is selling more is irrelevant and means nothing to them.

They dont care how big of the slice of the pie they get, so long as the number of units sold is high. If all they cared about was the percentage of the pie they owned and not the overall sales, they would all be developing for the PSP and not the DS. But it doesnt work that way, because owning 2% of the pie is better than owning 30% if that 2% = 2 million sold and that 30% = 300k sold.

as u can see - 3rd parties arn't doing that bad actually

wii third party sales are great maby now the "third party don't sell" argument will die

no - i doubt it'll die unless the ratio was like 90% 3rd party and 10% 1st party

Those are some good numbers, at least better than expected. Where is the Japanese ratio btw?

The Wii is doomed! 3rd party software does not sell!

The Wii is doomed! 1st party software does not sell!

lmao

Thanks to some raw NPD data, a couple of anti-Wii rallying points got pnwed in the past few days:

1). Wii owners don't buy games/Wii has shitty attach rate.

2). Third party Wii games don't sell.

So far, those numbers do conform with the stereotype.

You'll notice Nintendo accounts for 86% of software sales there. However, as Iwata shows with later graphs, the Wii has actually been following the DS when it comes to first versus third party sales, in all three regions. 18 months after it launched, the DS had about the same numbers as the Wii does now. If the Wii does continue to track along the lines of the DS, as it has in all regions so far, the ratio will start to favor third parties more in one year. Either way, third parties are doing quite well for themselves here in the West.

P.S. can someone please tell me how to embed images? My attempts have all failed so far. Thanks.

Nice even split between first and third parties
