Forums - Sony - PS5 Jailbreak lets you play PS2 games from the disc. (Kinda)

I've heard about this jailbroken PlayStation Store. It apparently takes about 4 minutes to set up, requires no PC, and gives you access to everything for free. On top of that, I also hear people are now able to emulate Xbox and Nintendo games on the PS5.

Ironically, all the nonsense Sony has been pursuing lately seems to have pushed the community into overdrive, turning the PS5 into a potential contender for the best console of all time. A single console that can play games from PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo, alongside offering one of the easiest ways to pirate games and DLC.

Somehow, I doubt this is what Sony had in mind when they envisioned an "all-digital" future where "no reasonable consumer believes they own the digital games they pay for."

I like to be able to play emulated games on my consoles, but I want to have a legal way to play them as well even if I will not use that way out of convenience.

The ease of which this hacking and support spurted up out of nothing will create a time where it will be difficult to get people to buy software. And thus the incitament to create new one will get lower.

If it is so easy to jailbreak as I've seen in the videos, it's going to be the best emulation machine on the market. The things this jailbreak allows is mindboggling.

Sony won't own nothing, hopefully they are happy.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

They want PS premium subs.

If they had made/marketed their console as a device that plays all PS1-PS5 games, then I would have bought one a long time ago.  Hell I would have even paid a good amount for a device that played all PS1-PS4 games.  Instead they made/marketed a console that plays all of the latest, most cutting edge games possible and they release on average only 1-2 of these every year, while also phasing out physical games before the generation is over.

I don't have a PS5, and probably will never have one, but I gotta admit this jailbreak makes it look like a good value.  I really would prefer a device like this that came from Sony instead of a jailbreak though.  I don't think they care what their customers want anymore.

Yeah, I've always considered the original PS3 (60GB) to be one of the best consoles ever made simply because of how many generations of games it can play (PS1, PS2 and PS3) However, a jailbroken PS5 would easily surpass it in that regard.
A single system that can run Playstation discs spanning all 5 generations, covering 30+ years of gaming history.

If the PS6 really is going to be disc-less, then at least the PS5 could end up being the ultimate disc-based gaming console.
One last "hurrah" before the end of the disc-based era.
