Ps2,saved up year and a half for it.

The last system my parents purchased for me was N64. The first system I purchased myself was an indigo GameCube, when I was 18. I feel like it was a launch bundle with Luigi's Mansion, Roque Leader, and Wave Race: Blue Storm, but I'm not 100% sure.
I chose GCN because it was the successor to N64.
SNES. I bought it because Nintendo Power told me the third Zelda game would be on this new 16-bit system, and Zelda was my favorite series at the time.
curl-6 bet me that PS5 + X|S sales would reach 56m before year end 2023 and he was right.
My Bet With curl-6
My Threads:
Master Thread, Game of the Year/Decade
Switch Will Be #1 All Time
Zelda Will Outsell Mario (Achieved)
How Much Will MH Rise sell?
My Bet With Metallox
Nintendo DS Lite. Pokemon, just Pokemon. I was 11 btw.
In my early teenage years, I wasn’t much of a gamer, but my girlfriend loved Tekken and some other PlayStation games she’d play at her friend’s house. So, I saved up money from every source I could to buy her a PSX with Tekken and a couple of other games.
When I got to college, I had extra money from grants and awards I’d won to go to that school. I bought a GameCube pretty much just for Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader. I also bought a new tv and it was a pain to find a GameCube at a fair price in Miami, where I used to live. Ended up getting it at MSRP at a music store that randomly carried it.
As far as a job, my first was at Target. I bought a PS2 for every game I’d missed on it, towards the end of its life. FFX, Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2, Gran Turismo 4, all the God of War games, GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas and so many more. It was in that deluge of games that I became the gamer I am today.

Mine was the Gamecube too!
I picked it up when I moved out of home to go to University. In the 6th gen I wanted one as I had an SNES/N64 when I was little, but my parents got us an Xbox instead, so as soon as I was free to buy my own, I had to see what I'd missed.

Nice!
That was a special time. I remember being really impressed with the tech behind those launch games. The water physics in Blue Storm in particular.
I also remember, a year later, inviting my dorm mates over on the regular for Super Smash Bros. and Super Monkey Ball :)

Yeah I got F-Zero GX, Rogue Squadron II, and RE4 with mine and was super impressed by how good they looked, the Cube was a beast.
None. My last console was my 2DS, back in 2017, and it was a gift.
But, my PC components (CPU, GPU, RAM) were all purchased by my own money. And the reason I did it is because PC gaming is overall much better for me. I love the combination of Keyboard + Mouse for first person games and shooters. Getting games on Steam is very easy, and you can save a lot of money from sales. Plus, support for PC gaming is amazing.

The OG Playstation, not much after it launched in Europe. Must have been 1996.
I had been gaming on the Amiga, and at that time Amiga and Commodore as a whole were quickly fading out, having gone bankcrupt in 1994.
So I needed to jump on a new platform. PC at the time was not nearly as user friendly as it is today, and I didn't have the money for a good rig anyways.
The Playstation had appeared just at the right time for me. It was gathering some banger games into its library and the whole concept with CD gaming felt like a new age, new winds. So I stepped aboard and have not looked back since.
