Forums - Gaming - What was the first console you bought with your own money, and why did you choose it?

The Xbox was my first, and it was to play Team Slayer in Halo 2.

I bought a PS2 a couple years later because I had a dream about an angel in outer space, and I later recognized that angel on some box art for a game. The game was Xenosaga Episode 1, the “Angel” was KOS-MOS, and it was the first game I got 100% completion in.

SNES

I was thinking of getting Mega Drive in '92, but didn't really find much reason (I've played almost exclusively on Amiga 500 at the time). SNES had Zelda, and for me that's usually enough (with Super Metroid being nice bonus few years later).

The PSP. Thinking of a handheld device with PS2 tier graphics made my 12 year old self drool. I spent every penny I had to purchase that 249,99 euros Value Pack

It was the summer of '99 when I first saw SoulCalibur running on a Dreamcast in a local shop. I had just turned 18 and started a part-time job that same summer... and well, as a fan of Soul Edge on the PS1, I decided right then and there to spend my first earnings on an imported Dreamcast and that game. I absolutely couldn't miss out on it! :)

The original Xbox. I bought the massive pack, it included 2 controllers and 3 games (halo, brute force and midtown madness 3). Was an awesome deal. Different times I guess. Many classmates also had a Xbox, so this really helped make my decision.

Inactive. Bye!

My first console (if you count the handhelds as well) was a "Donkey Kong Game & Watch", a dual-screen one-game Nintendo handheld. My first real consoe was ps1 (the original). Then I bought a dreamcast a few years later. Incidentally, I bought a Saturn right after Dreamcast to satiate my Sega franchises. I never bought a ps2 in its heyday but only a decade later, after ps4 was launched, I bought 3 ps2s over the years (two original models, one modded with an hdd, and a slim model).

Sales Estimations for 8th Generation Consoles

Next Gen Consoles Impressions and Estimates

The GBA was the first console I bought with my own money. Saved for a few months of my allowance. Bought Wario Land 4 and Pokémon Crystal for it. Held the first Advance Wars in my hand but did not get it since back then I thought games based on "violence" was immoral. I hindsight I should have ditched Wario Land for Advance Wars since it is a lot more my type of game.

Got the Swedish Nintendo Magazine around this time. Did not have a Game Cube, but the thought of connecting my GBA to a home console was (feel kinda annoyed be the thought today) one of the reason I bought my GBA.

N64 I saved up money for a year.

N64 > GBA > Dreancast > NGC >  3DS > WII > WII-U > XBOX ONE > SWITCH > XBOX SERIE S > SWITCH 2

I had a similar arrangement with my best friend at the time as well! But I was to one who got the 64, since I was older and working, so I could afford a few games in carts.

Yeah me too, my best friend had a PS1 and I had an N64, so we each got to play both; I'd visit him to play Croc, Crash, and Spyro, he'd visit me to play Banjo Kazooie and Lylat Wars.

One of the games we would play the most was a motocross one, besides Tekken, at his place. At ours it would be Goldeneye and most versions of Turok. We would also see each other play single player games: I saw him going through Symphony of the Night (with loads of envy lol), and he saw me go through Banjo and Ocarina, for example.

Yeah it was similar for my and my best mate, he watched me go through Banjo and Ocarina too, though games like realistic violence and guns were banned in my household so I didn't get to play Goldeneye or Turok, those I discovered later in life.
