Forums - Microsoft - Rumour: Xbox Gamepass getting restructured AGAIN. No more Day One

According to a moderator on ResetEra who previously revealed information about previous gamepass changes, gamepass is set to be restructured yet again. These gamepass name changes are happening annually is anyone keeping up?

2022: Xbox Live Gold / Gamepass / Gamepass Ultimate
2023: Gamepass Core / Gamepass for Console / Gamepass Ultimate
2024: Gamepass Core / Gamepass Standard / Gamepass Ultimate
2025: Gamepass Essential / Gamepass Premium / Gamepass Ultimate

2027
Online Multiplayer Only - $10.99/mo
Gamepass (Ads) - $12.99/mo
Gamepass + MP bundle - $14.99/mo (No EA/Fortnite/Ubi?)
Gamepass - $19.99/mo

Day one games and cloud gaming is being removed from the subscription. You can pay $6 for 25 hours of cloud gaming time and $6/month to upgrade your gamepass subscription to a family plan. Day one games will end early 2027, presumably already announced day one titles after this date will still come to the service on day one.

Info: Source

Spoiler!
One service with Ads, one without:
Ads tier will cost $12.99 a month.
GamePass without Ads will cost $19.99 per month or $239.99 annually.

They are reducing price by $3 because there won't be day 1 new games releasing on the service starting Feb - April
Cloud Streaming no longer part of GamePass subscription.
Cloud Streaming is an add-on bundle costs $5.99 for 25hrs.
Family plan is going to be an additional $5.99 / month
You can also select ONLY access to GamePass library with online MP for $14.99/mo

New games no longer release day 1 on GamePass.
Complete change of tiers, Online MP will be its own subscription for $10.99 a month.

Genius move from MS. Raise the price, but announce it far ahead of time so people buy months/years of Gamepass ahead of time, then once everyone gets comfy remove all the features which made people buy it in the first place.

This.
I Actually think this is the plan. Gather extra revenue for a better financial quarter, then change the features.

Gamepass was a mistake.

How does Gamepass with Ads work?

And I said it just last month, when the "free gaming time with ads" stuff was announced by Microsoft, it was just a matter of time for the standard paid gaming services to be with ads, or pay even more so they take out the ads they forced into the service, if people would accept ads getting involved with gaming.

Didn't take a minute to become true apparently lol.

Ending day one games would kill Game Pass, which makes me think this isn't real. Especially for just $3 less than they charge now with day one games.

They person claims day one games will be ending in February to April 2027 despite Persona 6 being announced as a day one and that is still a long way off from release.

Xbox adding an ad tier was a given as nearly every other subscription service already does that. Helix being a pc console hybrid would likely mean the end of paying for online multiplayer for Xbox starting with next-gen.

Changes coming? Sure. Killing day one games I don't see happening. They could remove Fortnite, EA, and Ubisoft as a way to save them money. I doubt many people are subbed specifically for those benefits.

Edit: Just because people play games day one on Game Pass does not  mean they will buy the games at launch if Game Pass drops day one releases. There are plenty of day one games I play at launch that I would I'd either wait for a heavy discount before purchasing or just not buy at all.

LMAO. I remember when people challenged me and said PS+ was much more likely to copy GamePass on day 1 releases than Microsoft dialing back. Fastforward and GamePass costs more and with little to no AAA day 1 releases?

So much for GamePass increasing software sales. It's actually insane that many believed that nonsense, and needed "proof" that GP day 1 hurts traditional software sales. Common sense is not so common.

The most fucked up part is that, knowing recent Sony, instead of using this as an opportunity to promote PS+, they may be encouraged to copy them. Without big day 1 releases, GamePass is basically an inferior and more expensive PS+, this gives Sony the ability to charge more and offer an ad tier of their own with less pushback. Sony vs Microsoft is truly a race to the bottom, but one of them is empowered by the fact that their platform is very popular.

First-day releases for most AAA games (and even some smaller ones) is stupid AF with the current and past prices of Game Pass. It seems like so much revenue and profits are lost. So if they're getting rid of it, I understand. COD in particular makes no sense to put on there.

Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

They dropped CoD from day one on Game Pass when they lowered the price from $30 to $23 per month. New CoD games will come to Game Pass Ultimate / PC Game Pass a year after launch.
