Forums - Sales - Predict the lifetime sales of the Ocarina of Time remake

What is your lifetime sales projection?

Under 5 million 2 4.17%

5-10 million 11 22.92%

10-15 million 22 45.83%

15- 20 million 7 14.58%

Over 20 million 6 12.50%

Total:48

Something tells me this game is gonna do a lot better than the OG and 3DS remake… (Zelda is a lot bigger now than it was back in ‘98 and ‘11.)

That said: I predict 10-15M. Seeing how Switch 2 software has been selling, and given the small installbase ATM, I think 5-7M launch followed by 2-3M holiday and 5-10M legged out LTD seems sensible.

I voted 10-15M: the player base brought in by BotW will boost sales but the game's classic structure will keep it from reaching open-world heights.

I think it'll be lower than people expect. A lot lower.

To Briefly Recap previous Zelda Remakes:

  • Link's Awakening (Switch) - 169% of GB original (106% if combining DX version)
  • Ocarina of Time 3D - 84% of original
  • Majora's Mask 3D - 102% of original
  • Wind Waker HD - 53% of original
  • Twilight Princess HD - 13% of original
  • Skyward Sword HD - 113% of original

I think sales in the 70% to 80% range are reasonable, and since Ocarina of Time sold 7.6 million, that would around 5.5 million or so.

Definitely over 10m. But maybe not above 15m.

It's got a long time to be the only Zelda game on the system, and probably a year until 3D Mario to be the only killer AAA exclusive on the system. Plus it's got all the hype of being a remake of one of the most legendary games ever. Also has the benefit of being an absolutely massive leap forward graphically for Zelda which will turn some heads - graphically this is finally the level people have been wanting to see Zelda at since we first saw Zelda in 3D with the original OoT (and why some people initially hated WW because they wanted 'realistic' Zelda not cartoon Zelda, welp, here it is finally: realistic Zelda).

Plenty of people who discovered Zelda with BotW will probably try it out and plenty of older people will get it to experience OoT again with modern graphics, and plenty of people who have been waiting for Nintendo to put out top notch AAA games on S2 will see this as the first one and so a must buy.

Obviously over 10m, as the game will likely best the N64 original's 7.6m by the end of the year. I think around 15m, so, optimistically, I voted for 15m-20m.

Personally I don't think previous Zelda remakes are a useful indicator here as none of them were this big an overhaul (sans Link's Awakening but as a 2D title that was less of a "blockbuster" for lack of a better term) or had this much excitement behind them.

Ocarina S2 could potentially blow passed 5.5m in its first week, let alone lifetime.

How is he able to see that.  Usually items don't display sales data before release on the main or mobile site.  Are these states viewable on the app?

Oh nevermind.  I can now suddenly see all sorts of preorder numbers... I can't however see the numbers for Zelda.

It depends on how much Switch 2 will sell. Not sure about that with the prices that are only getting higher. But I say 14 million
