Forums - Gaming - Things you prefer about the platform(s) you don't prefer

What are some things you like better about platforms that aren't your first choice?

For instance, Nintendo is my platform of choice, but I have also enjoyed the ability to play games in higher fidelity on PS/Xbox platforms since Ninty bowed out of the graphics race 20 years ago.

PS2's library is just too vast to ignore. I will always have Dreamcast as No 1 in my heart. So also my fave 6th gen system. Various reasons I won't go into here. Also just a pleasant console to use in UI. PS2, shitty controller for me. I don't like the systems looks. Nothing about the hardware I like. 2 controller ports vs 4. What's up with that? However PS2 game cases are better. Memory cards 8 MB vs 128KB is nice. The library is one of the largest ever and one of the better ones in gaming history. DC is always my first console. Right now I am mainly playing retro. So they are my main atm. If trying get me to say something about MS,Sony or Nintendo. None of those are my main to counter one or the other.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

PC is my preferred and main platform, so I guess entry price is perhaps better with consoles? But I also need a PC for other things, so a part of the cost of a gaming PC is actually not towards gaming, so it's not as dramatic. Still, the entry price is probably lower with consoles.

Online multiplayer probably has way fewer cheaters on consoles. I don't really play a lot online at all, and it's generally not been much of an issue on PC either, but it's been so long since I've played PvP online in any significant amount that the situation could definitely have changed. Anyway, it's probably an advantage consoles have over PC.

Xbox is definitely the platform I'm the least interested in, but for a console, it has really good backwards compatibility. I've 'always' had PlayStation consoles, and the state of backwards compatibility on them has mostly ranged from utterly shameful to somewhat useful. It's one of the main reasons I've consciously focused more on PC than I have in the past - I never get to play all the interesting games in a timely fashion, so I always have a ton of old games to play as well, just waiting for the right time.

Consoles still have physical games and through that, de facto ownership. The end is already in sight though, and this one will probably largely kill consoles for me. At this point, it's not a huge loss anymore though.

Sometimes consoles get interesting exclusives. It's getting rarer and rarer, but it's still something.

Two very especific Nintendo published IPs, and nothing more...

Fire Emblem and Pokemon.

That said...

Fire emblem never managed to top Path of Radiance, a game that's better played with emulation, the original JP version for extra content.

Pokemon is dead, Gamefreak gutted something i used to love! The games used to be simple and beautiful... i hope to see better days for pokemon.

Switch/Switch 2 player here. I like that both on Playstation and Xbox you get numerous and very generous digital sales for both third party games (on par with Steam sometimes) and even for their first party titles. When I owned a PS4, I remember I purchased pretty much every PS exclusive I was interested in because they made them ridiculously cheap. Uncharted 4, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn (and its expansion), Bloodborne (with the Old Hunters DLC)... I got them all for 10-15 euros each and some of them not even a year after release. That would be absolutely unthinkable on the eShop: you get AT BEST a 30% discount even for old as fuck games.

Love the portability of switch, you can take the game with you and resume on tv later.

Also love the quick resume 1 second feature of xbox series s.

The only thing I can think of is that PC gets an interesting game here and there that is not ported to the Playstation.
