"Pretty Popular" is an understatement. Splatoon 3 reportedly had a first week of over 3 million in Japan, making it the biggest launch in the country's history. The two entries on Switch have sold well over 8 million combined, and have likely sold around 14 or 15 million copies on Switch total.

The only limits for Splatoon Raiders are the Switch 2's install base and the fact that Raiders is a spinoff. And even with those factors, this will easily be one of the biggest launches of the year in Japan.

On top of that, the last Famitsu most wanted had it effectively at the top.  Pokemon was higher but I am assuming it is combined from both titles so per title, Spatoon looks to be the current most wanted game in Japan period.

Since Splatoon Raiders is releasing with a bundle in Japan, a big effect the next week is pretty likely. I could honestly see something similar to what happened last year with Legends ZA where the sales were multiplied by 4 week on week (hardware sales went from 46k the week before it to 201k on its release week).

So in this case going from 25k to 100k. Obviously it'll be interesting to see what type of baseline comes after that

The Switch 2 baseline could be very weak when/if the price hits the equivalent of $450+ in Japan. But it seems like Nintendo understand that they can't price it too high there despite the weak competition from PS and PC.

And given the high frequency of decent to great selling Nintendo titles, the "baseline" isn't exactly a baseline. Like... they'll get multiple spikes a year with an effect lasting for a few weeks. Also, an accumulated library of evergreen titles may outweigh hardware price hikes' impact on the baseline.

I think that some people underestimate how much of an impact the 10k yen increase has done to the system, yes, it sold almost 700k in the previous 3 weeks at the old price, but the cost of living in Japan is impacting their population the same as most countries.

And there’s still a high chance there’ll be another increase next year.
