nintendo has so much damn money and all they gave us this year were remakes and a cozy sim game. the word id use for 2026 is fail.

How much money does Sony have?  Nintendo has released more first party games this year than Sony has released in the last several years combined.  It takes time to make games these days, you can't knock out a new Zelda or Mario game every other year anymore.

Nobody wants zelda or mario every other year. Id just like to see more ambitious, innovative, orignial titles. Just because sony is atrocious doesnt give nintendo a pass. I expect more from the undisputed leader of the gaming industry. I expect more from Sony too but thats not who we are talking about right now.

Restrained

Nintendo usually likes focusing heavily on releasing big new games for their hardware in their early years. That means a barrage of Super Mario, Mario Kart, main series Pokemon, Mario Party, Super Smash Bros, Legend of Zelda, etc. The closest we're getting to one of those this year is the Ocarina of Time remake, and even if we generously assume that sells on par with the N64 original, that is stil a tier below the biggest hitters Nintendo has to offer.

This is not necessarily a bad thing. If I had to guess, Nintendo originally expected to have at least one of those Top Tier releases available this year, and had to delay whatever it was (likely Pokemon Wind/Waves) to 2027.

yeah, that's the same word for 2025 for nintendo too. the whole gen so far. I think MKWorld and DKB are literally the only two first party games that seem actually next gen so far.

An N64 remake (OoT), a year and a half in, is gonna be only the third real next gen AAA Nintendo game on the system, and it's a 30 year old remake.

Video game industry is bleak these days.

Totally agree with you.

The most interesting Nintendo lineup since a very long time. Pokopia, Star Fox, Fire Emblem and Ocarina is already a slam dunk. But even games that I had no interest in like Yoshi and Splatoon have me paying attention because of the positive impressions.
