In vacuum? 7/10 for original, 8/10 for OLED.
As someone who had WiiU prior to it and doesn't care for portable side of Switch? 5/10.

I'm actually in the same boat funnily enough as far as I owned a Wii U and couldn't care less about portability. Still loved it to death though, different strokes for different folks I guess.

For me Nintendo consoles are way to access Zelda and MK, with everything else being addition to it. Having WiiU, Switch didn't do much for me for quite a while, especially since neither TotK nor EoW didn't really do much to move that needle.
But yeah, very subjective thing, that's why I said in vacuum I would give it 7 (original) and 8 (OLED) - hardware and concept was good, execution had room for improvements (unfortunately, even Switch 2 didn't solved some of the issues).

I'm not quite that old but I did see gaming go from the SNES and Megadrive to Wii/PS3/360 by the time I was 20, and having experienced Atari and NES as well, I'm very cognizant of the progress made. Still though, it's easy to make progress in an uncharted field compared to a mature one. The age of gaming innovation moving in leaps and bounds was largely over by the time Switch 1 arrived, that's not really Nintendo's fault. I would argue Switch's hybrid form factor and the way it bridged the console and handheld audiences while making gaming more accessible and flexible was in itself one of the more innovative concepts to take hold in gaming in the past decade, actually. |
As someone who is old. The games you listed were innovative. It's harder to do these days. So we get some misses like Drag N Drive. Still TOTK.BOTW. Labo and such like you said still innovate.

A 7 for me personally. Brilliantly designed, innovative machine. Great first party line up (particularly if you didn't have a Wii U), great indie collection, but lacked the diversity of third party titles needed to score higher imo.
My Switch collection is only like 10 games big compared to my PS4/PS2/360 collections which are like double the size, the latter just had more frequent big releases that captured my attention. Especially as a fan of adventure games/RPGs.
10; because it has BotW and TotK and that would be enough for it to be a 10.
But also it can be played in handheld anywhere and on the TV.
And it has Metroid Dread, Splatoon 2 and 3, Mario Odessy, SSBU, Super Mario Bros Wonder, Monster Hunter Rise, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battles and many more.

So far, an average score of 8.84.
Which is pretty close to my own rating, for once I am actually with the majority on something lmao
I look at my top favourite games of all time, and so many of them are available to play on Switch in physical format.
It is my favourite console. 10
