Tetris is thrid-party, right? If so then I’d go with that. The game was a huge contributors to GameBoy’s success, launching Nintendo into their dominant position over the handheld market.

Technically the GB version was developed by Nintendo IIRC

Hmm interesting. Well sunce Tetris is technically not third-party, I’d maybe have to think a bit deeper on this. NES and SNES are certainly two systems that come to mind with powerful third-party support. I’d imagine there are some heavy hitters that really brought Nintendo some good figures.

Tetris,

35 million sold. Basically carried the Gameboy until the advent of Pokemon. Yes, it's 3rd party in the classic sense. On the Atari 2600, games were licensed out to a programmer who worked for Atari(Coleco in Donkey Kong's case) who developed the game for the platform. Nintendo actually had their game on Atari in Donkey Kong.

The only time I can remember a third party game making a huge difference on a Nintendo console is DKC, and even then, it was kind of first party. But without it, the Genesis would have won that generation in the US and quite easily. DKC 1's reverence keeps declining every five to ten years or so because younger generations who weren't around then keep downplaying it, but there was never a time when a non-Nintendo-developed game had a bigger impact on one of their platforms.

ZombiU hands down

madworld. put to bed the idea that the wii is for grandmas and newborns. finally we got a hardcore game.

Wrong on both accounts. No More Heroes is before that game and it did nothing for Wii sales

the SNES days... with SquareSoft.

Think of there being now Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger ect.
