So you are pretty much done with modern gaming, dont really care anymore and you dont feel like anything is lost? 

i guess when you put it that way.. yeah. 

there is still nintendo, so as long as that lasts, there is still modern gaming. we have yet to see what microsoft is going to do. i know everybody wants to assume their next move, but we probably shouldnt. hell, sony themselves can backtrack on this decision in the coming weeks. 

but if we want to take the most likely scenario moving forward, that would mean we have switch 2, ps6 (digital) and next xbox (digital). modern gaming would still exist. but if it doesnt? well, i think our best move is to start getting used to that idea early. as ive stated ive been basically living that (aside from the switch) for the past 5 years with these consoles. i didnt even buy an xbox, all 15 of those games i mentioned earlier were ps5 games. lol

Doesn't bother me in the least. I haven't bought a physical since early years of my PS4. All systems will eventually go to digital only. Wouldn't surprise me if next Xbox and Nintendo do it

Sony won't backpedal, they've wanted it for years. Even if they have to take an initial loss, a digital only future is too tantalizing for them, especially when they can control EVERY aspect of the distribution.

The defeatist attitude is strong in here. Is it really more satisfying to say "it won't work" rather than giving it a shot? Obviously won't be this petition alone that makes the difference, but fans have made a difference before. If we just accept something that dissatisfies us then we have no control whatsoever. You can vote with your wallet or sign petitions or voice your opinion and maybe it won't work but there's still a point in doing it rather than just saying "oh well guess it's out of my hands".

(of course if you legitimately don't care that's entirely fair.)

I really hate this kind of attitude, this whole idea of "It negatively affects others, but it doesn't affect me personally so I don't care." We live in a world of ever-increasing enshittification, of increasing corporate power over people (such as increasingly normalizing the entire idea of the working class not owning anything they spend money on), of increasing economic hardship, of technology gone mad, but some people feel it doesn't bother them so they just shrug and go "Not my problem. Sucks to be you, I guess," as if the concerns of others aren't even worth addressing. It's like saying "Sure, education sucks in this country, but I don't have kids so I don't really care," or " I've already owned this home for a long time and its value keeps going up, and I'm going to see to it that said line keeps going up. Why should I care about affordable housing? Newer buyers being increasingly priced out isn't my problem." We really have produced a culture where toxic individualism runs rampant, where people only care about themselves and everyone else can go pound sand. A culture increasingly devoid of empathy. Of "I've got mine, Jack."

You are right. I signed it. I also signed another one that is doing the same. If Im going to keep on bitching(and I will) then I should at least support fellow game collectors.

I don't think companies have much incentive to heed any petitions. Public outrage might work, because it's a bad look, but a petition is just too easy to ignore. In Sony's eyes, it's probably not that different from market research they've probably done in advance of this decision. I think a petition might work when the party it's addressed to is somewhat open to feedback, but Sony has certainly made its mind and isn't really open to feedback.

When Sony already has invested in turing disc plants into microlenses plants it is going to be a pain for them turn it all around.  Decisions must have been made months or longer ago.
