I don't see them backtracking, but they'll probably announce some major improvements in digital ownership and refund policies, and may release a PS6 disc drive add on for backwards compatbility and give PS5 an extra couple of years of disc support. Best case scenario is they will allow expensive limited print games for collectors. It's still shocking to me that they chose this over making a price gap between physical and digital like Nintendo. The outrage could have easily been avoided by a move like this. These suits' brains are wired differently!

IMO allowing for expensive limited editions of AAA and Indie games is all the PNP petition wants. Even if it's just for another 2-3 years as PS5 gets sunsetted.

Well, if Sony were hoping for Xbox to take the heat off them today they're outta luck, as it looks like the bad news there isn't as terrible as anticipated, and certainly not enough to draw away the angry mob.

While the Xbox news are bad, it was needed. That part of the company has been mismanaged for years. Asha is just undoing some things that never should have been done in the first place. Hope she turn it around. We need more competition in the industry.

Maybe in their calculations they were exactly expecting a huge backlash and that is why they wanted to give it a lot more time to settle down, so by the time the PS6 is being announced and forth to its release, all the outrage over the end of physical media would already have passed. But I would still question that, since you need the hardcore crowd for your PS6 (who else should be buying a 1000+ USD consol) and that is exactly who you are pissing off with this move. Plus that is exactly the crowd which is not forgiving and forgetting that easily...

Ultimately, we have no idea what the plans for PS6 are.

Maybe it's digital only. Maybe they move to carts.  All we know is that they'll work with retailers, so there'll be some sort of software presence. 

Maybe there's a solution there they aren't willing to talk about now, or maybe there isn't.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist normally, but does anyone else kind of get the vibe that a few female execs got together and trashed talked about their husbands taking up room with their "physical" games and secretly decided to reclaim back their homes lol.
