Forums - Sales - [UPDATED] Report: GTA VI preorders hits $1 billion in one hour, over 30 million copies sold

Anthony Palomba, a researcher and professor at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business, estimates that the stock gains in the first hour alone after the preorders went live suggest an increase of about $1 billion in revenue.

"Take-Two shares rose almost 3% in early trading when pre-orders opened, and some analysts modeled as much as $1 billion in revenue in the first hour alone," Palomba wrote.

I don't get it. Am I missing something? The stock gains suggest $1 billion in revenue? What does the stock price have to do with pre-orders of the game?

Making 1 billion means it sold between 10M ($100) and 12.5M ($80), isn't it? That number of sales in 1 hour is OBSCENE. Exceeded my expectations.

You have to remove Sonys store cut if it generated 1 billion for take two

It'll be interesting in 30 years time when someone wants a copy of the original version of the game and literally can't get it due to licensing issues and forced updates (not to mention, paying full, market price). Meanwhile, I can buy 1.0 version of GTA 3 for my PS2, CIB, right now, on Ebay, for about ten dollars.

Viva digital, baby! Viva digital!

I honestly think it doesn't mean anything. Share price and pre-order sales of GTA VI are not related. I think what the article means is Take-Two added 1 billion dollars in share value that day. That's totally unrelated to pre-orders. But someone please correct me if I'm misinterpreting the article.

In 30 years there will be a successor of GTA 6 on the market or a remake for the current systems. I don't think GTA is a series where many people play the previous game once the sequel is out. Probably Flat TVs won't even exist anymore in 30 years.

Full article here.

Just insane. And all of this without a PC version yet.

In 30 years, people will find a way to be playing GTA VI on emulators. Heck! I bet GTA V will be easily playable on smartphones in that time. Not everyone have the energy or the sentimental attachment to preserving old ass devices with their original media, hence why almost everyone is playing the 80's to 00's classics on every current eletronic device imaginable.

We reap what we sow

I believe GTA V has already been playable on smartphones for a while now due to x86 and DirectX to Vulkan translaton layers. The real question is how will we source a 1.0 version of GTA VI in 30 years? The only way would be to have PS5's latest firmware jailbreakable when the game comes out
