Forums - General - I need a rest

Just some thoughts I had on recent days.

Being part of any forum on modern days is not an easy task. The internet is not the same as it used to be back in the mid 2000s, when I joined the digital world. We have to deal with a society where people are being more and more harsh with each other, while a few are still keeping a bit of sanity in their heads.

Gaming is still a hobby I love. But healthy discussions about gaming at the internet are getting more and more rare by the day. And for someone as myself, who fights to make every post count and keep the ambience friendly, seeing threads getting derailed EVERY DAY because of politics, or someone just forcing their opinion, using harsh words, downplaying what they don't like, etc, makes me really depressed.

This is a sales forum, so of course, people will defend their favorite company and even occasionaly throw some jabs at their "rivals". It's normal stuff, and I never have problem with that.

But no, I'm not talking about VG Chartz only, I'm talking about any community. Geez, I never had any problem with anyone in this site. This is one of my favorite places, and I love talking to you guys.

But for someone like me, who has to deal with a not-so-normal state of mind, I feel like staying at the internet for too long, where someone post "what is your favorite generation of gaming?" and three pages later we're discussing which gen had more ped*philes... Well, let's just say I'm tired of this for now. This isn't a jab at anyone, It's something that's becoming a routine everywhere.

I have my political side, I consider myself from centrism-to-right wing, but I can't care less about what are my friends' take on that. To be honest, I feel like politics are taking the best of people, and turning them into knights who would die to protect their kings. That's a metaphor, but maybe it works too.

So, before turning this into a wall of text, here's my point: I'm taking a break from internet forums and communities. I don't know when I will be back, but for now I want to rest my mind.

Sorry if I sound rude or something, but I'm writing this at a very calm state. Again, I have no problems with any of you guys, it's just that the current state of the internet may be too much for my head to assimilate, and I feel like staying out of this before something happens. I was never rude to anyone around here, and I want things to stay that way.

I don't know when I'll be back. Could be a couple of days, some weeks... But once my mind is on a better state, I'll let you guys know. I'll still access VGChartz, since it's my primary source of gaming news, but I'll be AFK from the forums.

That's all, I wish a very good time for all of you.

It’s because you’re used to an Internet that didn’t have algorithms or engagement fueled by monetization. Most of us are. It’s taken me a good while to get used to it. Focusing on yourself rather than the opinions of others you’ll never meet in real life is a good start.

Wish you the best.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

Take a break , get laid, play some indie games

Yeah, I too miss when it didn't feel like everyone in society was constantly at each other's throats, and when any hint of disagreement wasn't construed as a personal attack and met with nastiness and abuse.

I try my best to keep things positive and constructive, but it does get me down sometimes.

Take it easy mate, hope you feel better soon.

People are far too filled with hate these days. So many just full of anger. Morally the world is in a big decline.

Take care of yourself and stay away from places and people that have a negative effect on your wellbeing. It's not worth draining your energy on such people.

Hopefully we will see you back here soon.

Is why I went to Japan. At first I didn't know Japanese, so it was a free mute button for everyone around me. News was in Japanese, and I didn't really access home news. Pretty much just stayed on VGchartz, but not too much. I watch English streams and most of the chat is cringe, but I still watch it and keep chat on for the occasional enjoyment. But like 90% of chat is hating on the streamer, the game or each other.

Take care of yourself, unwind with a single player game and just enjoy life. Take a nice walk while the weather isn't too severe.
