agree with you on the mario. should be a given by the end of this year. i havent tried pokopia, i know people have been saying great things about it. maybe its not fair, but i have a very negative view on anything pokemon related they release because the mainline releases the last few generations have been very unambitious. so in my mind im dismissing it before even giving it a chance lol. 

regardless, they may have some decent games but i just cant get over the fact that their biggest hype releases are remakes. albeit very well done remakes. it just doesnt sit well with me. i think about what could have been, what a new star fox game could have actually been like. instead its just star fox 64. i mean what the hell.

id take what they gave us in 2025 over 2026. mario kart, donkey kong, hyrule warriors, kirby air riders, and metroid prime 4 (technically a switch 1 release, but it launched on switch 2 so i think it counts). all original titles. their biggest title this year is a remake which should never be the case.

It's not worse. It's just not for you. Not much for me either. That's fine. Plenty of other games to play not from Nintendo on your Switch 2 and other platforms.

oh yeah for sure i have plenty to get back around to and play. i dont even have time to play anything, so again, definitely no shortage for me over here. i just want to see nintendo put out quality ORIGINAL content and hopefully see another championship. 

I disagree on two things:

1. That the 2026 lineup is weak. Removing all ports, multi-platform games, expansions, and even console exclusives, you still have this list of true exclusives: Mario Tennis Fever, Pokémon Pokopia, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Star Fox, Splatoon Raiders, Orbitals, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, The Duskbloods, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I think that's damn good for 12 months, assuming the games in the second half of the year release on schedule and deliver the goods.
2. That a remake can't be the "anchor" for a calendar year. I believe a remake — as long as it's a transformational remake, which is what Ocarina appears to be — can be as eventful and as beneficial to a game library as an entirely original experience. Think about Zero Mission, or the REmake, or Resident Evil 2, or Resident Evil 4, or Dead Space, or Final Fantasy VII, or Silent Hill 2.

Switch 2 has had some good support so far, and while Switch's first-party from March 2017 through to the end of 2017 is undefeated so far, let's not pretend 2018 was close. Momentum is difficult. Not white knighting Nintendo here, but consistent big releases is tough and pretty unprecedented. Mario Kart World at launch and DK in the launch window are significant, and there have been other titles since.
I do suppose I hoped for a bigger 2026 for Switch 2 given Switch 2's later launch in its year than Switch in 2017. But again, Switch's 2018 in first-party was not exactly awesome. I love Smash, but the rest of the lineup was just decent or not for me.
I agree that a 3D Zelda remake, even of Ocarina of Time, should not be Nintendo holiday game material. Especially not this early into Switch 2's life. But it's going to make them a lot of money and they also have a late October release of Switch Sports Resort which is all but guaranteed to sell over 10 million units in its life.
Am I disappointed in Switch 2's first-party lineup so far? Yeah. But not as much as Wii U, and not as much as 3DS prior to 3D Land and Mario Kart 7.

2027 is hopefully going to be a red-letter year for first-party Nintendo games on Switch 2 and hopefully all of gaming history. We have Pokémon Gen 10, Xenoblade and hopefully some of the following
-3D Mario
-Luigi's Mansion 4
-2D or 3D Kirby
-Super Smash Bros.
-F-Zero
-Splatoon 4

This is the perfect case of gamers in general acting entitled, in an 18 month window (June 2025-Dec 2026) Nintendo will have released:

Pokemon Legends Z-A
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

Pokemon Pokopia
Tomodachi Life

i appreciate this post. you laid out the facts clearly here. i think this proves my point. there really isnt much to write home here about unless youre a fire emblem fan. just not a strong showing for the switch's first full year on the market. ill repeat what i said in an earlier post, if star fox were an actual original title, i would feel much differently about the year, because the game looks phenomenal. thats why its so disappointing that they wasted all that effort on a remake of a 30 year old game. 

switch kind of needed all that firepower in 2017 coming off the wii u, and i would never expect a year like that, really no matter what the situation. i agree mario kart world and dk bananza was an insanely strong start.
