So far:
- More than 75% of voters would not go over $700
- More than 90% of voters would not go over $800

Considering this sites is pretty much for enthousiasts, that basically means homeconsole Gaming is dead.

I think we all have access to so many games, and most either already own a PC, PS5, Xbox Series or even older tech such as PS4/One/Switch - I think not many of us actually need to spend over 600 dollars on a new console any time soon with plenty of gaming devices (even including our phones!) keeping us busy, but yeah sometimes we need a impulse buy but consoles are getting beyond that cost now

this is interesting, plus we need to factor in that 90% of people will need to upgrade their TVs to enjoy a new console too which makes things worse. It makes so much sense to delay the next gen of gaming at the moment but they should make a PlayStation or Xbox handheld like Switch 2 for the time being or maybe release some retro stuff for fun like the SNES Mini or Mini PS1 did but maybe make a Mini Gamecube or PS2 for example lol.

Based on what data?  What upgrade is required?  Genuinely curious.

Edit

According to CTA 82% of American households have a 4k TV.

rtx 4090, 32 gb ram, i7-13700k

Switch 2

I'd pay only $599 for Switch 3 that can be used for productivity too. Otherwise, I hope the world will rebalance itself soon. Potentially 3 most powerful countries will have dictators as their leaders and AI boom would be the least thing to worry about. Just a food for thought.

$700... if it has a disc drive. No disc drive = no buy.

That's a good point. Thing's need to come down in price, fast

It needs to be remembered that what people say and what they do are two different things.

I imagine back in 2019 if you had a vote on would you pay $70 for games it'd have leant very heavily to no, and the same people that voted no would end up still buying games when they went to $70 lol.

We're also a very small sample size, 46 voters on a planet of 8 billion.

That said, the way console sales have slowed down just with recent price hikes, and how hesitant millions were to upgrade from PS4 to PS5, I wouldn't be surprised if a $700+ console struggled to sell well.

I think I'm done regardless, I got my PS5 and Switch 2, and will ride those as long as games come out for them.

True, but there does come a point where gaming is too expensive for a big audience. The PS5 Pro does quite poorly compared to the PS4pro for a reason, despite it being a far better upgrade. But yes impulse buying is definitely a thing. On the other hand PS5 sales in UK plummeted to Xbox levels.
