The NES ones hold a special place in my heart... but.... common, the Switch Carts are awesome.

The thread is not "which medium do you prefer", it's "which group of consoles do you prefer, the ones that used carts, discs, or game cards?"

Oh that could explain it.... I guess I didn't understand what the OP ment.

So NES/SNES/N64 vs Gamecube/Wii/Wii U vs Switch 1/2.

Well,  as one of my preferred consoles is the Sega Master System, and it's in part due to the Sega card, so there's still a category missing for me. But as this is just Nintendo, I'd say cartridges win.

And while I don't expect anyone to select those as their favourite, the disc drives are technically still missing.

Showing my age here (going to be 30 soon, not 35-50 like a lot of the members here) but I'm going to go with optical mainly for GameCube and Wii. Those consoles were so much fun with fun IPs like Smash, Paper Mario, Super Mario, Mario Kart, and so on. There was some fun on Wii U too despite the disappointment of the console.
Switch and Switch 2 are about to pass that, though, and they probably already have.



Lifetime Sales Predictions 

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Yeah carts take the top spot for me for the moment, but I suspect by the end of Switch 2's life I'd vote for Switch 1/2 as I already rate Switch 1 above NES/N64 and 2 is off to a strong start.
Maybe I'll run the thread/poll again in like 2033 and see how we go then, lul
