Forums - Gaming - Most Tragic Cancellations/Indefinite Postponements

Thrill Kill on PSone, even had the disc cover from PSM magazine. We did eventually get WuTang, which was solid, and I know Thrill Kill would have been an average at best fighter.

Propeller Arena on Dreamcast. Made by AM2 and supposedly really really good. Canceled because of 9/11. You can play it with a ROM. Maybe I’ll do that one day.

Prey 2
Titanfall 3 or whatever Respawn was working on
StarCraft Ghost

Probably forgetting some others

My mate had a copy of thrill kill... I remember as a kid the grotesque stuff.

I mean, it never got an actual announcement... but Golden Sun Dark Dawn (2010) ended with a huge cliffhanger and we are still waiting for a sequel that continues the story.

For games that actually got cancelled, ZombiU 2. The first one is still one of my favourite games on the Wii U and one of the most interesting survival horror games around. The sequel had potential to improve or fix the rougher edges (better story, more melee options and more fleshed put melee combat, better visuals, etc) while mantaining everything that made the game great. Sadly, Wii U flopped, the game got canned and with the second screen dying with the Wii U, there's no hope for it.

Fuck, I think I'll start a new playthrough of both Dark Dawn and ZombiU.

I'll second both the disappointment for ZombiiU 2 and the love for the first game.  Managing your inventory on the second screen to the detriment of being able to see what was happening around your character on the main screen was a brilliant use of the second screen in my opinion.  I got close a couple times but never managed to get my original character to the chopper.  For my half a dozen play throughs I always died at least once.

I think I got to St. George Church on my closest attempt. I always get nervous at the whole "circus" part...

Oof, PT. Forgot about that one. What a tragedy...

Metropolis Software (defunct) where making a horror sci-fi FPS called “They” that got canned in the late 2000s. Fun fact about Metropolis Software, they had the license to make The Witcher before giving it up. CDPR would later buy the studio and have the bulk of the studio work on The Witcher and close them in 2009. I always loved the look of that game.

Ride The Chariot | ‘26 Completion

Around the Network

Half-Life 2: Episode 3.......what a travesty! And then seeing the gameplay sandbox they were testing in the 20th anniversary documentary, makes the sting even worse!

StarCraft Ghosts. Blizzard was my favorite childhood studio, and seeing the gameplay of Ghosts, couldn't wait till launch.....that never came.

The Halo MMO (Titan) was looking to be really cool. Ensemble was estimating that the game would become a billion-dollar MMO. This was during peak WoW and Halo popularity. Much of the game's assets and network infrastructure were completed, Ensemble was set to go into a new state of the art studio, then Don Mattrick pulled the plug on the game and the studio because he wanted a bigger bonus.

Unreal Tournament 4. Fortnite happened and Epic shut down anything and everything related to Unreal Tournament. Even though UT4 was primarily a community driven developed project.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

Scalebound I guess, cancelled the very same year it was supposed to release after 4 years in development. Concept was cool, a lot of people were looking forward to it, only to be scrapped and thrown in the bin like what

Silent Hill PT, for obvious reasons I guess.

I dont know if itd be considered "tragic" but i was looking forward to the remake of Prince of Persia Sands of Time and yeah, its canned.

Beyond Good and Evil 2, i dont think its officially canned yet, but its been in development for what? 16 or 17 years? yeah

Suikoden 6. Never announced, never cancelled, and yet my heart hurts

Forever salty about the cancellation of Rogue Leaders for the Wii. The game was finished, and it was the only chance we ever got for motion-plus lightsaber combat.

Metal gear Rising 2

Zone of the Enders 3

2014 MGR2 was teased but never spoken of again. Zone of the Enders 3 was cancelled twice. In fact the first version lead to another cancelled game. If you played MGS3 and remember the nightmare sequence. Guy Savage. That started off as ZOE3 but morphed into another game that also got the ax. Second cancellation came in the late PS3/360 era. This time ZOE3 was a prequel or reboot not sure but Jehuty and Anubis had a more organic look to them. With ZOEHD Collection sales not up to Konami's expectations and their hatred of Kojima. It was canned. I have been gutted ever since.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

This may be a weird reason why I’m bummed this was canceled but Kid Kirby on the SNES. Mostly because the thought of a collab between Nintendo and what would be called Rockstar North today would have been mind blowing.
