It looks smooth at times, but also a bit choppy at times. Might just be because of the high speed and the more mechanical movement of a car.

Yeah, it looks okay as long as the car is driving straight. But every corner (when the camera direction changes), it gets a bit choppy.

Yep.  This camera panning is when fps matter the most, not straight driving.

Looks jittery to me, not really smooth. I'm also not used to motion blur anymore (mostly playing VR nowadays) so it's kinda off putting. Kinda feels like the camera is shaking the whole time.

I played Forza Horizon 1 on 360 at 30fps and never found it to be a problem, as it was basically a locked 30fps with good use of motion blur.

It looked like either a well executed 30fps or how I imagined 40fps would look like on a 120hz display. It definitely has that "cinematic" 30fps vibe, but without the obvious choppiness I normally associate with 30fps. It's certainly a lot better than FF7 Rebirth's 30fps which I found unplayable on base PS5.

I really want to experience 40fps because I feel like it's the perfect middleground. It's low enough to feel somewhat "cinematic" without being as choppy as 30fps or as "soap-opera" as 60+ fps.

For some reason, highframes in some genre expose the technicial flaws easier than 30fps. Materials and physics will often look fine on 30fps, then you switch to 60fps and suddenly everything feels like it's made out of cardboard lol. Perceptions...

40fps is a good compromise, I find.

It's noticeably smoother than 30 while not requiring as many sacrifices as 60.

In some games, I can see myself preferring 40fps even if the 60fps mode retains the same settings!

Do none of the games you own support it? Or do you not have a 120Hz display?

I do not think I'm capable to watch a clip and determine what fps it run as. But Side by side I always prefer the higher frame rate even if it is at the expense of a resolution level or things like ray tracing.

The latter (not counting PSVR2). I intend to get a 120hz OLED display sometime after the PS6 is launched.

So far the only games I've played at 40fps have been Fallout 4 and Cyberpunk 2077, and it worked fairly well there.

I imagine for a driving game with less camera movement and a good motion blur implementation it would be even better.
