Forums - Website Topics - De-Anonymize “Agree” On Forum Posts - Yea or Nay?

The Good:
- Helps address the risk of a problematic user abusing the “Agree” button through alt accounts.
- Shifts focus away from the total number of “Agrees” a post receives to who is engaging with it. This reduces the likelihood of posts turning into popularity contests and instead encourages more meaningful discussion.
- Providing users with more information is generally a good thing.

Potential Downsides:
- Reduced anonymity may make some users less comfortable using the “Agree” button, potentially discouraging participation.

Personally don't care too much, wish I had my agree set to anonymous just this one time for fun

Yes

I don't really care, because it doesn't really do anything. I don't think I've seen popularity contests either at all or almost at all, so no problems either. But like I said, I don't really care, so if it's visible to everyone, I don't think the downsides should be huge either. It's not like there are too many terribly controversial opinions presented here anyway for people to get shamed about for agreeing with.

I dont think it matters at all tbh. Wouldnt make a diference either way

Yes, more out of curiosity than anything. Certain posters almost immediately get a thumbs up on very post, within a few minutes, always made me wonder a bit. Not that it really matters, curiosity killed the cat and all.

I really don't care either way.

If someone wants to engage in a topic they should post a message. A simple thumbs up is nothing information, even with someone's name attached.

Your first reason is valid. I had never even thought of that. What kind of pathology would motivate a person to go through so much trouble to artificially like something as frivolous as a stupid internet post? Crazy lol.

I think this is a very, very low priority on VGChartz, but, sure, why not? I really don't buy the logic in the OP — I don't think members are karma farming or creating alts to boost their likes — but in general I'm all for more accountability. If you have a controversial or scandalous opinion, you should own it.

Bring back downvotes.
