As I already stated, upscaling is one of the few positive use cases for AI. Technically you don't have to care at all, that's entirely up to you, I'm simply outlining why many people do care about the negative effects of AI as a whole.

Well AI as a whole does include upscaling in video games, so that is one of the uses thats not harmful? Again when does it become harmful? When AI becomes self-conscious?

I already stated some pages back the negative effects of AI; that's when it is harmful.

AI in its current form will likely never be self-conscious, the technology is ultimately not real intelligence.

Your negative effects of AI seem to be a lot of "could happen". Everything can be harmful if you choose to focus on the negative aspect of it. Every form of technology can have many negative aspects to it if you think hard enough about it, but there are good things about them that improves our lives. Im sure there are things we havent even thought about when it comes to AI. Probably not many people saw much good in dynamite when it was first introduced either. It CAN be used for horrible things, but it can also help us in many different ways.

Stuff like deepfake revenge/child porn, workers being laid off en masse, AI scams and misinformation, skyrocketing prices for RAM/electricity/etc, rampant slop content clogging the internet, the devaluation of art, environmental damage, etc aren't what "could happen", they are happening right now. You don't have to "think hard enough" to find the negatives, the applications of AI in its current form are overwhlemingly negative.

What art are devalued? Is the Mona Lisa 40 bucks now? What electronics and water(?) are skyrocketing in prices because of AI? What environmental damage? How is AI to blame for any of this? I dont even know what the deepfake thing is... I mean putting a different face on a child being abused is not really the big concern in that situation.

AI data centers drive up utility costs and waste water and electricity: https://blog.carnegieinvest.com/data-centers-are-driving-up-utility-bills-but-is-that-fair

The propagation of AI content devalues real art by flooding online platforms with meaningless slop and burying genuine human expression.

Well here in Norway AI must have started decades ago. Electricity is very expensive here and has been for a long time. But seriously, sure its unfair that regular people have to pay more for electricity when companies like Google and Microsofts data centers uses a lot of it, but thats not really AIs fault. Thats how its always been. Someone uses a lot of something, then others have to pay for it. Thats for the government and the people at Google and MS to figure out.

So art is meaningless slop if its not made by people? I mean if you cant tell the difference.....then whats the difference? Then again if you can tell the difference and the AI art is slop, then its not really a problem.

These new data centers exist to service AI; if AI was not a thing it wouldn't be happening and things like RAM would still be affordable.

And yes, if it is not made by people, then is meaningless slop and it is not "art". Art is human expression.

If not AI, then it would be something else. We use more electricity now then we did 10 years ago. And we used more electricity then than 10 years before. Its just the way it goes.

Art is in the eye of the beholder. I would rather watch AI slop than a banana taped to a wall.

Anyway...I of course see yours and other peoples concerns about different aspects of AI. Im just not that worried about it. New technology often comes at a cost, but Im not convinced that AI is the big bad guy some people make it out to be. I think it can be very beneficial to the medical and other important fields.

We can agree to disagree; I don't have a problem with other people liking it, I just personally don't.

One thing I think everyone can agree on with this is that Nvidia definitely could've done a better job revealing it. I dunno what the hell they were thinking making that shot with Grace be the most prominent one. Faces is the aspect that's the most iffy so they really should've focused a lot more on stuff like environments instead of showing so many shots with faces being the main focus.

From what I've seen this video is the best showcase of the technology in its current form. Even though there's currently clear room for improvement there's still a big visual upgrade here, particularly at the shot 7 seconds in and the one with the lizard. Once the kinks are ironed out this is gonna do wonders for games aiming for realistic lighting. Big games are routinely gonna have what is basically a photorealistic lighting setting for a fraction of the computational cost of rendering that normally which is wild.
