Forums - Gaming - How many years has it been since your favorite game series had a release?

Final Fantasy non port wise last entry was VII Rebirth in 2024.

I'm fine with the ports since I multi dip.

Zone of the Enders (2003)
Star Fox (2016)

Here are the last entries of some of my favorite series:

Master of Orion: 10 years (2016)
Wizardry: 23 years (2003)
Knights of the Old Republic: 23 years (2003)
Might & Magic (in the original universe, so not counting X: Legacy): 24 years (2002)
Theme Park: 25 years (2001)
Battle Isle: 26 years (2000)
Magic Carpet: 31 years (1995)

Also damn, Hearts of Iron IV already came out 10 years ago?

You covered Persona and Tales for me, otherwise there is:

  • Warcraft (22 years since WoW, 24 since Warcraft 3)
  • Smash Bros. (8 years)
  • Half-Life (technically 6 but feels like 22 years)
  • Portal (15 years)
  • The Witcher (7 years since Thronebreaker, 11 since Witcher 3)
  • 3D Zelda (3 years)

2025 OpenCritic Prediction Leagues

Final Fantasy had one this year on Switch 2.
Xenoblade Chronicles had one last year on Switch. Even though it was a remaster.
Legend of Zelda a few years ago, but it may as well have been very recently (as far as I'm concerned), because I just bought the most recent game for Switch 2.

That's off the top of my head.

Will be 27 years later this year.

Depends on my definition of series. For instance, Resident Evil is one of my favorite series ever, but only the OG games. Once RE4 came out, and I discovered it was basically a new IP with the RE skin on it, I no longer liked RE. So for that franchise, it's been 26 years.

Suikoden released the Hd remakes of 1 and 2 last year and both were great.  Never thought id see the day

Monster Hunter released Wilds also last year, and its currently fantastic, after a horrendous launch.

FF released FF7Rebirth in 2024, twas great

Cant complain

Warcraft was iffy for me due to WoW expansion dates and WoW classic Re releases so I didn't think about it lol.

Wipeout 14 years since last 'main' release, 8 years since the VR version.

Burnout 18 years since Burnout Paradise, 22 years since Burnout Takedown :/

SSX 14 years since last 'attempt', 23 years since SSX 3 :/

Is this thread to get me into retro gaming?!

There's more but I think I don't have the patience anymore for strategy and tycoon games which rules out missing a whole lot of favorite series. Probably also because they all either went dormant or got butchered with online, ftp, mtx nonsense. Warcraft, Command & Conquer, Sim City, Sims, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Age of Empires, Civilization, Populous, Settlers, Tropico all used to be series I looked out for new releases.

Gran Turismo and Flight Simulator are the only ones that have survived as my regular time sinks. Looking forward for the PSVR2 update for FS2024.
