Admittedly I'm not a hardcore purist, but I thought their remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls looked fantastic.

After the discussion here I went to look for a video explaining how Demon's Souls changes were so bad, it is a ~70 minutes video from which I watched ~30 yesterday, and so far, it is mostly only overblown nitpicking, at least in what was presented so far in that video.
The guy seems to have an excellent understanding of many nuances on the story and design language from the original game, but so far the only things I can agree with are the overall atmosphere and how bad they decided to remake the fat officials loom. Everything else is expected to be subject to change when being remade, not remastered, and seems like the guy is forcing criticism for the sole reason of it not being exactly the same as before, even if the changes make the remake vastly more visually pleasing.
That video mentions the intro being changed from a guy struggle to a hero beatdown, and I agree with it, not that it is a problem on a intro video, but that's an overall feeling I have the game itself will not match the original, by being slow (not the performance issues) as the original, which is the most grounded game from them all.
You struggle to deal with a big enemies or a small group partly because you won't have as easy a time roll spamming like you can have on Dark Souls 3 for example. The remake may play better than the original, like the newer games also do, but Demon's Souls definitely had the better approach IMO, intentional or not, of struggling to fight big creatures or groups that should easy physically overwhelm the protagonist, you feel that way when playing the original and that's awesome.
As posted here it seems like it'll have some bad design changes with sutble lore implications and changes/mistakes regarding some songs, the later in special can be quite a big stain indeed, but as of what I saw up until now I can't agree with the Remake butchering the original at all.
