The film hits theatres in April 2026
Im happy its an actual sequel. The way they worded it with the movie being "another movie set in the Mario universe" was kinda confusing.

Yeah.
The first movie was a hybrid of a lot of Mario ideas in a big mix and a story.
This is a sequel based on the Galaxy games while continuing the story and surely referencing other games too.
It still seems weird to me that they go straight to Galaxy instead of having Super Mario World as the second movie because of Yoshi (who is in Galaxy 2) and stuff.
The inevitable third movie probably won't be named after any of the games. It would be really weird if the third movie is mostly Sunshine. Seems like too much of a risk for a movie.
I guess it could be Odyssey plus a lot of other stuff.

So Brie Larson as Rosalina?
Honestly, I like it. Rosalina is supposed to be a woman of extraordinary power and capability in the Mario Universe - basically their closest thing to God.
Brie Larson has plenty of experience portraying woman of extraordinary power and capability. And that little bit of at the end of Rosalina reading to the Lumas sounded good!
And Rosalina herself looks AMAZING!!!
Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr.?
...Who the Hell is Benny Safdie?
Either way... Ehhhh, I didn't really like what I heard at all...

Since they didn't cast Brie as Peach and I don't think they would ever cast her as Samus in a Metroid movie, Rosalina seems perfect.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's Brie Larson is a big Nintendo nerd
"In an interview on her personal YouTube account, she recalls kicking her first boyfriend out of the house because he was distracting her while trying to beat the final level of Super Mario Galaxy. "He said that I was taking it too seriously, so I threw him out of my house," she says while laughing. Now that's true love (between a girl and her Wii)."
I actually think Benny sounds pretty pitch-perfect for Bowser Jr. (sounds like Bowser) because I wasn't expecting a prepubescent voice.

I still find it weird that they pretty much skipped 20+ years of games to go straight into Mario Galaxy. It is a critical darling for sure, but Mario Bros 3 and Mario World are primed for good stories. I dare say, maybe more than Galaxy. I guess Galaxy has that WOW factor that those stories do not have.
Anyway, it appears to be a celebration of 3D Mario games, much like the last one was a celebration of the 2D Mario games. It should at least be a decent watch. The first one had no right to be actually fun to watch. (I think the same as the Sonic movies.)

Nice , this will be my first film in theater since 2023 with the first movie lol.

Yeah I rarely see movies on the big screen any more unless they look like something special; I think my last one was Alien Romulus in August last year.
I'll definitely be checking this one out at the cinema though. (And Avatar 3 next month)

Yeah I prefer watching movies from the comfort on my home on either my 85'' TV (couch in media room) or 75'' TV (while in bed in my master bedroom).
I'm planning to take a day off probably a week or two after this movie comes out on a Monday morning viewing so I can watch this with the least amount of people around.
I remember going to a movie viewing on a Monday morning and it was just my wife and I in the theater lmao.

I don’t care that they’ve jumped to Galaxy. I think it’s a smart call to have both these heavy hitters as the first two Nintendo Universe movies. Zelda will hit a year later and I know before Zelda hits we’ll probably know about one more and maybe even two more titles. It’s a great time to be a Nintendo fan, that’s for sure. I know ultimately the wheels will come off, but so far so good for Nintendo’s second chance at hitting the silver screen.
