Forums - Gaming - Greatest Games Event - What will we do this year?

Tagged games:

So the year is already drawing to a close once again, and we are very fast approaching the time when we used to have the Greatest Game Event (if I'm not mistaken November 12 is the 50th last day of the year), but as I'm sure most people know mZuzek retired from the role after many great years and the 15th event last year. Question is then if we should continue the tradition and who would host it if we do? Personally I wouldn't mind making the threads if people still want to participate, but the problem is compiling all the data, since I'm still recovering from a wrist injury I probably wouldn't be the best candidate for that, at least not to the usual extent (though I suppose the bulk of the work is still 2 months off). I suppose there is also the alternative of continuing to list our greatest games but in a bit of a looser format, I know I have trouble adhering to exactly 50 games though maybe that's just me.

So the question is both if people want to continue the tradition this year and if anybody is itching to be the host?

I will certainly be participating if the event happens, but I don't think I'd be able to run it with my current schedule.

Thanks for bringing this up, @UnderwaterFunktown

I am itching to participate, but there's no way I can find the time to properly host.

I think a plan B that involves all of us listing our top 50 lists and then the host using those lists to create a simple top 100 games list (not a top 944 games list, like last year) could work. And maybe use a weighted formula that prioritizes games listed higher on each top 50? I think that's what mZuzek did.

I was thinking last year and earlier this year, I’d take over from mZuzek, because I also liked this a lot. Like you guys though I struggle to find the time.

If anyone still wants to host I’d participate again (even if again not much if anything about my list would change). Meanwhile I’ll think about setting it up after all, but I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you and it definitely shouldn’t keep anyone else from doing it.

Simplifying is probably necessary and listing 100 games from all of us. Listing nearly 1000 takes a lot of time.

My own list of 50 hasn't changed much from last year, but I can only speak for myself.

Just wanna thank mZuzek for running it all those years, it must've been very time consuming. Much appreciated.

Actually, this wouldn't take much less effort. In order to know the overall top 100, you need to compile the full ranking from everyone, and that's what takes the most time. And the second thing that takes most time, honestly, was the top 100 post with all the fancy banners.

I've been considering the idea of just hosting the event again, only without the results. So it'd just be the Discussion and Official threads, people make their lists and talk about them, and that's it. But even then, making the threads with their fancy banners and making my own fancy images for my list was the next thing that took the most time

I’d be up for helping tabulate votes if someone else wanted to do graphics and make the actual thread.

I would definitely participate, but there's no way I could host it as I'm very busy right now with my new job

Splitting the work seems best. I could manually calculate votes, but probably not the best idea.
