Will the PS5 outsell the PS4?

Yes, it will 15 20.55%

Probably yes 14 19.18%

Maybe 9 12.33%

Probably not 18 24.66%

No, it won't 17 23.29%

Total:73

If not for their fumble with the Pro I would say it was in the bag. As it stands I still think it's likely enough particularly because I don't think they will necesarrily release the PS6 in two years when it comes down to it. The wheels are slowing down, PS4 is still getting a decent amount of support and a PS6 released in 2027 would not be any huge kind of step up realistically. When hardware is sold at a loss (give or take) I'm having a hard time seeing why they wouldn't take at least one extra year with the PS5 before moving on.

Doesn’t look like they will be able to meaningfully decrease the price before the launch of the PS6. And since I expect there to be a PS6 version in the $400-500 range, that makes the PS5 pretty redundant at that point. So if PS6 launch is in 2027, yeeeaah it will be difficult to reach PS4 sales. Maybe just barely crawl past it.

Let's go, Sony's forecast for the fiscal year is 15 million consoles. If GTA 6 is not delayed and launches in May next year, the next fiscal year should reach 20 million due to GTA 6, which would equate to about 113 million consoles by March 2027. After that, only 5 million consoles would be needed until the end of its life. Yes, it is possible.

PS5 is already on the way down and GTA6 won't change that.

What GTA6 can (and probably will) do is avoid PS5 yearly sales dropping to single digits in 2026

You think the PS5 will sell 9M at best during 2026? LOL

"Looks like PS5 will not be able to keep up with the Switch or XS in the US this gen"
Well he certainly read the tea leaves wrong on that one above so let see what happens next year then.

Regarding Grand Theft Auto 6, I fully expect a 60fps remaster of the game for the PS6/Xbox Next, possibly even at launch if they do indeed arrive in November of 2027.  That, coupled with the PC version that could arrive shortly after that would present several platforms to choose from for people who aren't early adopters of the title.

I'm sure the PS5 version will be the biggest seller of GTA6 and it will move many consoles to be sure, but it would have fared so much better for the platform had it not been well past its peak upon the game's arrival.

I ask this genuinely. What fumble? They made an expensive product and charged a premium price. It only got the enormous backlash it did because Sony was the first to price a console at 700$. If it had come after MS pricing the XBSX at 730$ there wouldn't have been any controversy. The high prices aren't fumbles. The XBSX always costed around 700$ to produce but MS kept it retail price 200$ below to be competitive with PS5. Having a retail product match production cost isn't greedy or a fumble, it's just that the PS5, XBSX and PS5 Pro are all very expensive to make.

No, not with big games like GTA6 releasing - but also nowhere near the 20M from the post I was replying to.

I'm more expecting something like 11M for the PS5 in 2026, which would be a similar drop to the one between 2024 and 2025 if the 15M target is reached.
