Forums - Sony - Rough launch aside, would you say the PlayStation 3 eventually became the best console of the 7th gen?

The controller is what lets it down for me; the 360 pad and the Wiimote + Nunchuk were just more comfortable and in the latter's case for featured and versatile.

Still, it had an incredibly strong library of games and was a powerhouse for its time serving up some of the biggest "wow" moments of its generation, so I can overlook its flaws.

I wouldn't say Wii + Nunchuck were that much more comfortable but surprisingly nice for what they were.

As a standard controller, 360 has a much better shape than Sixaxis/DS3. I feel like Sony perfected their controller shape with DualShock 4. Shoot, I'd probably take the shape of DualSense over PS1-PS3 controllers.

Sony really lacked a cohesive controller identity during the generation compared to the other 2.

Wii had the remote, and add-ons to it that allowed tons of gameplay and control opportunties.

360 had a comfortable controller and later added Kinect as a hands-free peripheral.

PS3 had Sixaxis, DS3, and PlayStation Move. PS Move felt like it was trying to emulate Wii, for sure.

Xbox 360 was the better console hands down.

But, Sony's PS4 was better than the Xbox One and was rewarded with great sales rate.

It was always the best 7th gen console.

It was the only gen that for a while it would be fine to pick whatever, but the PS3 always had the best games, and thus was the best console.

Even up until midway the gen it had stuff like MGS4, DsS, U2, GoW3, GT5. TLoU completely sealed it on most people minds in the last year, but it was always getting huge exclusives.

It was mostly a question of buying a cheaper and very likely prone to fail console, but paying to play online, or a more expensive but more reliable one, with free online.

Both had good exclusives to choose from, but IMO the ones on the PS3 were always vastly more appealing. Specially stuff like Disgaea that was not hitting Xbox.

The only thing I wanted to play that I missed was Lost Odyssey. I'm sure Gears and Forza were fine, Halo 3 did nothing for me when I tried it.

The PS3 made me jump out of piracy even, as the Xbox 360 would allow me to play games for free basically, and even so I did not choose it. Gladly.

Yes. It got the exclusives I cared about the most, could play many of the previous generations' games I cared about, and had free online. There's no reason why I would personally prefer Xbox 360 over PS3, and Wii, while kind of interesting, has very few games that interest me.

Between PS3/X360 and Wii, I guess you could go either way depending on your preferences, but aside from subjective reasons, I think it would be hard to call Wii the best in any way, aside from a bit of innovation. Between PS3 and Xbox 360, I guess for games, it's even enough, but PS3 has a Blu-ray drive and free online, so I'd still vote for PS3 as the best console of its generation.

I found the Wiimote + Nunchuk combo very comfortable personally, in that they were rounded in a way that fit very well in my hands and felt good to hold/use.

Dualshock 4/Dualsense were a huge step up for Sony, yeah, those feel great to use. The OG Dualshock design was fine in the PS1 era but by the PS3 it felt like a relic.

Sony knew the PS2 controller was dated and needed to change, but people freaked out over the boomerang prototype, so they panicked and just recycled the old mold. Not enough time to design an entire new controller. Glad they fixed the design with DS4 and Dualsense. Only Sony controllers, I don't feel like holding a child's toy that will break in my hands. I use a Retro Fighters Defender when I play PS2 now and it's so much better than a PS2 controller.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

As someone who had a ps3, I would say the 360 was overall better. While the ps3 arguably has better exclusives overall, the 360 had almsot every single multiplat game play significantly better on it. Along with that the 360 had plenty of great exclusives as well with halo 3 and reach, gears trilogy, fable 2, forza horizon and motorsport games, ninja gaiden 2, saints row.
