It was always the best 7th gen console.
It was the only gen that for a while it would be fine to pick whatever, but the PS3 always had the best games, and thus was the best console.
Even up until midway the gen it had stuff like MGS4, DsS, U2, GoW3, GT5. TLoU completely sealed it on most people minds in the last year, but it was always getting huge exclusives.
It was mostly a question of buying a cheaper and very likely prone to fail console, but paying to play online, or a more expensive but more reliable one, with free online.
Both had good exclusives to choose from, but IMO the ones on the PS3 were always vastly more appealing. Specially stuff like Disgaea that was not hitting Xbox.
The only thing I wanted to play that I missed was Lost Odyssey. I'm sure Gears and Forza were fine, Halo 3 did nothing for me when I tried it.
The PS3 made me jump out of piracy even, as the Xbox 360 would allow me to play games for free basically, and even so I did not choose it. Gladly.
