Forums - Sales - New Digimon Game Is Blowing Up on Steam

Yeah, of course it's relative to what you set the context to be. I was interested in new releases in general, not just previous Digimon games. I guess it's better than late ports but like you said, they've been doing pretty poorly at launch, so no wonder. The day 1 releases you listed are akin to what I thought, and for those, my point stands: not blowing up but respectable nonetheless. But of course if you're comparing previous Digimon games, it's a massive difference.

Context always matters but specifically to the term "blowing up", you're talking about something having sudden surge in popularity and interest. Doesn't mean it has to be competing with the best sellers of all time.

Physical copies being sold out in bodes well for the PS5 version.

No doubt a Switch 2 version is on it's way but if Sony also want to chip in and contribute towards the development on the next one I won't be mad if it stays PS/PC exclusive.

Its a Bandai Namco game, chances are that it will stay on PS/PC, they don't care about Switch/Switch 2 in general.

There are countless Bandai Namco games on the Switch, and Sparking Zero is arriving next month with a NS2 edition arriving with it. Elden Ring is also coming wherever that is ready. I simply don't know where you got that idea from.

Oh, and this is a thing that happened too: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/07/digimon-story-time-stranger-switch-2-listing-surfaces-online

How do you know it is not the main platform? PC only has grown, also in Japan.

Digimon's primary platform has been Playstation since PS1 days.

Bandai Namco favors Playstation moreso when it comes to their Anime franchises.

Also worth mentioning that Sony just invested in Bandai Namco over the summer with just under 500M for a 2.5% share ownership which is more than Nintendo's 1.75% share and Sony signed a strategic agreement with them to develop and strengthen IP.

Yeah and for Capcom PS was also the main platform but it is PC now.

Also sales in Japan doesn't scream main platform.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger pre-orders exceed Bandai Namco’s expectations, physical copies to be scarce at launch  - AUTOMATON WEST

Namco already made a statement that pre-orders were higher than expected for physical and stock was sold out. They will do a restock but for now it probably drove an even higher attach rate for PS5 digital because of this.

And that's great for Capcom on the PC side but it doesn't stand for every publisher. Capcom even called Monster Hunter Wilds main platform the PS5 initially and well we all know the bad optimization that crippled the sales on that game on all platforms. Still though, without any PC Japan sales data you can't really refute BasilZero's claim at this time, especially with the above info.

yes true, if you think is a main market for Digimon, this is very low compared to steam figures

are digital sales included?

No, digital sales are not included and there was a shortage of physical copies. Also, Steam figures for concurrent and all time players are a global chart for all regions. All you're seeing in the copied data above is launch physical PS5 copies for Japan only.

Is there any franchise on PlayStation where Japan remains the main market? Genuine question

A good congrats on such an achievement!
Although it can't truly be said if the Japanese PC market is exactly the cause of such a number.

Globally, it sure garnered an interest unlike few of their previous outings. So it's good to see Digimon strolling around.
