Hoping this translates to an affordable PS6. With XBSXS going as high as $800 and the cheapest option being Switch 2 at $450, the direction of the industry is a little concerning

I predict Sony is going to pull a Nintendo and release the PS6 with only slightly bumped power. I think they're going to want the console both affordable, and its games not to cost a zillion dollars to produce. Shu has already sort of hinted at it, as have others.

Yeah I feel like a modest bump is their only real option; between diminishing returns and the state of the world economy and the chip industry, delivering a traditional "generational leap" over PS5 would require a system so expensive it's be unaffordable to most people.

That said, I don't think that's a problem; modern games already look good enough, especially when you consider the popularity of even a lot of games/systems with very low end graphics.

I don’t believe that Sony expected much more than that, and I think they are ok with it. They are probably making more total hardware profit on those 10-20% of PS5 Pros sold than they are on the 80-90% of standard PS5s sold.

Exactly this. People also don't realise that the XBSX is just a Pro version of the XBSS and they have no problem with the XBSX existing.

"low single digit" percent so its likely more a case of 3-5% Pro vs 95-97% PS5.

Up until the tariffs I would of assumed sony was making like $20 Profit on PS5's versus $100 on the Pro. I don't think it's an issue for them but I also think they wouldn've imagined more than 3-5%, maybe closer to 10%. PS4 Pro was 20% if I'm not mistaken.

But then why releasing a PS6 at all?

I will not buy a console that will not play games significantly better than a PS5, I will stick to my PS5 or will simply upgrade my PC

If the games already look good enough and a full generational leap is not possible, it means consoles should drop this generations thing and just start doing small upgrades every 2~3 years and let people upgrade when they feel like it, like GPUs does

Sony are in a luxury position next gen. They can release a console as expensive as they please because there is no competitor that has the will to fight with them on price anymore. Just look at Xbox's 800$ console as proof of that. It can also be a meagre upgrade and cheap console and nothing bad can happen because there's no competitors who want to release a a cheap console in that power range. Switch 2 is still much weaker than PS5. It all comes down to Sony's preference of how they want to do business and what works best for them. They will win with whatever strategy they choose but I guess it's what's best for the shareholders.

PS4 Pro benefited from a more appealing price (even adjusted for inflation), an included optical drive, and 4K support (no 4K support even for video on PS4).
PS5 Pro is not merely an enthusiast device, it's a luxury device as far as consoles go.

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about that. Sony understands that they actually need to sell a new system otherwise adoption will be slow and leaves plenty of room for competition including Nintendo.

Rumours suggest PS6 will have at least 2-3x raw power and then up to 10x capacity where it comes to RT and machine learning tasks which can inlcude physics and animations etc. That is certainly not a PS5 repackaged

Who would have thought that in the midst of a cost of living crisis impacting the entire planet... That a higher priced console would falter?

It's a solid piece of technology, it's just at an incorrect price... And this is the same exact issue with the GPU market, there isn't a "bad GPU" in AMD or nVidia's lineup, just poorly priced ones.

Even if the price was better, I don't think the PS5 Pro would be doing well. There are few games that take advantage of the hardware. Not only was the PS4 Pro priced better, it had games that showed a real benefit to owning one. Has there been any really good Pro implementations out side of Stellar Blade? I guess Rebirth was okay too.

I could be wrong but I read it as low single digits of total LTD PS5 sales. Meaning five years of standard PS5 vs one year of PS5 Pro.
