Forums - Nintendo - How well do you think Nintendo is handling the transition from Switch 1 to 2?

Some of the complaints about first party lineup, I find laughable. “No big Mario or Zelda for the holiday!” Or “too many cross-gen titles!”

Not having a specific game you want in the first year is not a valid complaint about their transition strategy.

Also, cross-gen is just the way the industry is now, Xbox & PlayStation were getting many high profile cross-gen first party titles years into this generation.

Nintendo has handled the transition very well. Let’s look at their release schedule this year

Switch 1 exclusives
January 16-Donkey Kong Country Returns HD
March 20-Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition
October 2-Super Mario Galaxy 1+2

Switch 2 exclusives
June 5-Mario Kart World
July 17-Donkey Kong Bananza
November 6-Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
November 20-Kirby Air Riders

Cross-Gen
October 16-Pokemon Legends ZA
December 4-Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Updated ports
June 5-Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom
July 24-Super Mario Party Jamboree+Jamboree TV
August 28-Kirby and the Forgotten Land+Star Crossed World

A blend of exclusives, cross-gen titles & updated ports, pretty much what any sane person would expect.

Considering how many big controversies Nintendo has had at this point (leading the charge in 80$ games, the failure of the fake cartridges, the console-bricking ToS...) and not a particularly brilliant first year in terms of software, I'm shocked the system has taken of as it has.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

You continue to be shocked because you refuse to acknowledge how little of the alleged controversies has actually been real.

I clicked on only one negative video on YouTube and since then my recommendations show at least a couple of stupid takes on Switch 2 on a regular basis. The internet is certainly desperate to make people believe that there's something seriously wrong with Nintendo and Switch 2. In some ways it's reminiscent of Switch 1's launch where the internet had decided that the launch window lineup is weak; Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe went on to combine for more than 100 million copies sold. Neither one of these two games was an actual exclusive, but Switch 2's two early heavy-hitters are.

How fake the controversies around Switch 2 were was demonstrated every time it came to making sales predictions. People acted like Nintendo had a flop on their hands, but at the same time they were shitting their pants to predict under 100 million units sold lifetime.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Let’s compare Nintendo published titles for Switch & Switch 2 first 12 months.

Mario Odyssey and BotW alone are enough to carry Switch over Switch 2 IMO. That's an insane duo to drop in a single year. Switch 2 has had a very solid start, though!

Considering very few had a Wii U whilst everyone had Switch, that is a crazy good first year for switch 1 for the 90%.

In the past Nintendo actually delayed games to coincide with a transition to a new platform to give it more oomph, so it is a valid talking point.

Cross gen equally is a select choice which people can be critical off. Particularly as the huge gulf between Switch and Switch 2 is similar to that of PS3 > PS4 and we did not see much cross gen in regards to 1st party. Specific to one of Curls questions actually, I think a game like Metroid Prime 4 should have been built for Switch 2 in mind from the very conception and really taken advantage of its full feature set. For me it's missing such a standout 1st party title which gets me excited about the potential for the system, particularly for the kind of games I will go on to play (Zelda, Xenoblade etc)

looking back at the PS4's reveal Killzone looked so beautiful and Infamous Second Son still looks gorgeous. These were PS4 launch window games, so again I think there's a bit of wow factor missing from the 1st party offering although DK's destruction is very cool so I'll give them marks for that.

I suspect Metroid on S2 will outsell the S1 version 2:1 anyway but would of been nice for it to properly look the part, figured it would also create more hype for the game too

I wasn’t counting eShop titles, you can add those while adding Snipperclips & Flip Wars for Switch

Sure, those are major releases, my issue is people counting BotW as a major Switch title despite being cross-gen while simultaneously discounting Pokemon Legends or Metroid Prime because they are cross-gen.
