i do think that if nintendo saved the release date for metroid that it would have hit much harder.

for marios 40th, didnt you expect something substantial? i mean, of course the new 3d mario is what we all had in mind, and its obviously what should have happened given the milestone, but it didnt have to be that. maybe some fresh new type of mario game or another series in a franchise that takes things to the next level or innovates in some way. not re-releases. im so sick of ports and remasters. i was on this site trashing sony for this throughout the entirety of 2014, relentlessly. and im not going to accept that from nintendo. at least with my words. i might with my wallet.

Nintendo doesn’t operate according to deadlines. When a game’s ready, then it ships out. Hence, Nintendo has an inconsistent history with these five year anniversaries, often serving is nothing more than a marketing ploy. 2010 saw Galaxy 2 and a re-release of SNES Mario All Stars (lol), 2015 saw Mario Maker and not much else, 2020 saw DLC and a Mario 3D All Stars, 2025 saw DLC, a movie, and Mario Galaxy 1+2. I definitely was hoping for a 3D Mario, but if Nintendo doesn’t see the 40th anniversary as the best launch window, then they’ll hold off. Them marketing Yoshi as the big Mario game for the 40th anniversary reminds me of how they marketed M&L: Dream Team as the big Luigi game of 2013.

I think this is more of an expectations issue than a Nintendo problem. I also would’ve loved what you suggest, though if they don’t deliver on it, then…well…it’s not like there was precedent for such in the first place.

all fair points, and yes that mario all stars on wii was... i have no words. i think youre right we fell victim of hype due to the 60 minute runtime. if you include mario kart, donkey kong, and air riders, then yes we are looking at a pretty good year.

I was ready to buy Galaxy 2 until I saw the price. No thanks I'll keep playing it on the Wii.

I think people don't understand the difference between a Nintendo Direct and a list of games.

The games shown in the Direct were overall GOOD. There was a lot of games and there was something for everybody. There were some nice surprises, more information on very anticipated games that are about to launch, etc.

But the Direct itself? Like... the act of watching a 1 hour long video? It was terrible. There were very long segments about a bunch of games that no one gives a shit about. There were announcements that outright pissed people off (DLC for Z-A before the game's launch, Virtual Boy being behind THREE FUCKING PAYWALLS (NSO, Expasnion Pass, VB Accessory), Switch 1 free upgrades of very minor games and not a single big third or first party (Xenoblade series? Astral Chain? Bayonetta 3? Metroid Dread/Remaster? Fixing Nier Automata's crashes one day? No?), announcing a cheap Pokémon farming game like if it was some big gun... and many more). They relied heavily on games that we already know a lot about and are releasing like... any time (Z-A, Metroid Prime 4, etc). They skipped games that were already announced and we still know nothing about (Rhythm Heaven Groove, Splatoon Raiders, etc).

Overall, the Direct was boring, annoying and lame. That's what people is complaining about. It's the "this could have been an e-mail" thing. Maybe not that extreme, but still.

Exactly right. Nobody is complaining about Nintendos output for this year. Let alone next year since thats for future Directs to adress. It was just a bloated Direct that could have been 20 minutes stretched out to an hour. Here it was on at 3PM, so not bad, but for people who had to wake up at 6AM to watch this mess... I feel for them.

What I liked:

- Fatal Frame II Remake - I played the original on PS2 and it was great.
- Mario Tennis Fever - Only because of the Adventure Mode.
- Danganronpa 2x2 - Danganronpa, AKA the series that gets rid of great characters and let the annoying and boring ones survive. At least the remake is from the best title in the series. Also interested in the new content.
- Resident Evil 9 got a great new trailer.

The rest was Ok, I think. But yeah, most of the direct was really boring. Also, that new Yoshi game looks absolutely passable. And I'm a Yoshi fan myself.

ROFLOL! Thanks for that.

It's an F for me. Aside from the new Fire Emblem which I'm a bit interested in, there just wasn't anything there for me in the first party games. Third party games I'll get on PS5 so those didn't win me over.

I wish we could've gotten a more complete collection of the 3D Mario games with upgrades for SW2. That's what I wanted the most.

Wait... The Mario Galaxy pack is 70 dollars??

It's a 18 year old game, that most nintendo fans probably already played.
It likely took them somewhere between a day or a week to port it.

Gotta make that big profit $.

Yeah this should have been like a 40$ deal. imo.
Even then, its like my favorite 3D mario game... so probably still worth, if its all on cartridge and playable without patches ect.
So years down the line, you could go back, pick up the Switch 2 and this ,and replay it.
