Forums - Nintendo - Resident Evil 7, Village, and Requiem coming to Switch 2 February 27th 2026

You can tell it's cut back, especially the hair, but honestly for a portable console running a high profile current gen title, it holds up fine, certainly a lot closer than we saw in most PS4 ports to Switch 1.

It will be interesting to see where RE7 and Village fall technically; will they be straight ports of the PS4 versions, or will they incorporate some of the 9th gen upgrades?

When you play RE 4 Remake on PC, you have the option in the settings to enable the hair details (off, something equivalent to medium and high) and this option is quite demanding, if you disable it you will get something like 20 fps, and the Switch 2 version of RE 9 looks like the disabled version of the hair details from Re 4 Remake, so this makes sense.

For comparison, just look at how horrible Revelations 2 looked on the PS Vita. For a PS5 game running on a handheld, RE9 is holding up fantasticaly.

Pretty much, this is what the gap between portable and console used to look like:

I played the cloud versions on Switch VII is a better game imo

Switch!!!

DF took a look at the trailer for Requiem; they surmise that the game retains ray traced lighting on Switch 2, though with RT reflections replaced with SSR and the strand-based hair system replaced with hair cards.

Resolution at this point seems to be a little under 720p with DLSS to 1080p, which they consider to be fine.

Overall they seem pretty positive about it:

As long as the gameplay doesn't come close to "Remothered 2" territories, it'll probably be a solid option to play the game.

Capcom say porting the game to Switch 2 was "easier than expected"

https://www.ign.com/videos/putting-resident-evil-requiem-on-switch-2-was-easier-than-capcom-expected-ign-daily-fix

"…when we got the Switch 2 hardware, we were surprised in a good way about how smooth the process was for us to bring the existing development version of the game to that platform. It just made sense that we felt that we don’t need to wait on this one or do a separate project after the main game, we can just bring the main game to this hardware immediately.

Looking good! I'll be waiting for the inevitable PSVR 2/PSVR 3 release, but the Switch 2 version is looking great.

Honestly, the best VR version will be the Nintendo Labo 2 version, so I'll wait too.

I'm just genuinely happy that developers have a healthier, more robust eco-system to work with that both supports their creative vision, minimises workload and  increases their capacity to reach more audiences. Switch 1 simply couldn't support that.

Similarly with fatal frame 2 you can see that there weren't any concessions made for the game to target all major platforms which wouldn't of the been the case before if a game was aiming for Switch 1 and PS4, let alone PS5.

It hasn't been since the gamecube that Nintendo had a home console that was so inviting for multiplat releases.

Capcom details how the trio of ports came about:

"Actually, Village was the game we first prototyped and tried out on Switch 2 hardware when we first got the kit.

Village running natively on Switch 2 was such a smooth process that we thought: “Oh. Well, we can look at Requiem as well”.

That, as we said, went smoothly, so we had two of the three kind of working at that point, and we were like ‘well, let’s go the whole hog and add in 7'."

Yeah while Switch 1 could handle ports of PS4/XBO game, bringing them over took a considerable investment and often steep concessions.

With Switch 2, the process seems to be a lot more painless, which is good for both gamers and developers.
