Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Direct set for September 12

This is a Nintendo direct. It has 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% to do with anything else.

So keep on topic or get removed from the topic.

You are bound to love Earthbound.

Shameful presentation, pure greed.

Every company trying to shamelessly take as much money as possible.

to be fair the S2 is in it's first year. MKW, DK, Prime 4.. amazing upgrades with BotW and TotK.. really solid first year.

i7-13700k

Vengeance 32 gb

RTX 4090 Ventus 3x E OC

Switch OLED

For me this year: Metroid Prime 4, Mario Galaxy 2, Hyrule Warriors, Bananza DLC, Kirby Air Riders

Next year: Fatal Frame 2, Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil 9, Rhythm Heaven

Maybe: Dragon Quest VII, Hades II, Yoshi, Pokémon Z/A

I swear, the negativity in this thread is insane. You people keep expecting dozens of announcements in every Direct even though Nintendo hasn't been announcing far-out games for almost a decade now. We have Pokémon, Hyrule Warriors, Metroid Prime 4 and Kirby Air Riders releasing this year, as well as Mario Galaxy 1+2 and the Donkey Kong DLC. What did you expect? For Nintendo to release two games per month? The games you are waiting for are probably in development, they just haven't been unveiled yet. There are even some games we know will come that weren't mentioned in this Direct. Nintendo never shows their full hand.

I guess this will help Nintendo get a handle on stock. Remember their FY forecast seemed really low, but they truly didn't have any big guns ready. Now it all makes sense. I wouldn't expect any big announcement until May next year.

i wasn’t particularly blown away by the presentation, but I think greed is the last word I’d use to describe it. The fixation on Amiibo, DLC, and acccessories came off a tad bit greedy, but my main issue is this: The direct was a lot of little things during a point in NS2’s life where it desperately needs something big on the horizon. So far, we have no massive system seller to look forward to on a system with only two (three if counting DxD) original first party releases.

I agree that the presentation was poorer than expected, but I also agree that there truly is a lot to be excited about. If they had only closed the presentation with something bigger than FE, I feel like this thread would be significantly less negative.

I didn't know about that. Curious...

I don't know, I just think this could have been put in half-way into the Direct and leave the final segment for something more... universally loved. Or a more niche franchise making a comeback. Or a new IP. I don't know, a new Fire Emblem doesn't make me very excited. It hasn't been too long since the last one.

The problem is they probably don't have such game yet. Which were the options?

Metroid Prime is the niche franchise making a comeback It was announced at the end of a past Direct

3D Mario is still very far away The same team that worked on 3D Mario also worked on DK Bananza

The Smash team seems to be working on Kirby

The Zelda team probably only just started development on the next title

Splatoon 3 is still very fresh, and you usually don't want a live service game to have such a short lifecycle

A new Pokémon was already announced last year and is coming in December Game Freak will announce a mainline title in a proper Pokémon-specific Direct

We could make an argument for Animal Crossing, but I believe the next one is still mid-development (maybe a 2027 release)

As for a new IP, they usually don't make good Direct finishers. A new IP is something you want to advertise at the start of a Direct, with as much information as possible To close a Direct, you need something with a clear fandom that can generate hype just by showing "this is the new game of [IP]" on the screen

It was either Fire Emblem or Resident Evil, guess Nintendo reserved the spotlight to their own games

Are you being sarcastic or something?

3D Mario will be holiday 2026 IMO ... you may think it odd but Nintendo considers things like the movies as kind of a game release in and of themselves and they want the Galaxy movie to be the main thing people focus on next. Then *afterwards* they will reveal 3D Mario IMO.

It was the same with Mario Wonder, they could have shown that alongside the first movie or with the movie but they didn't. They waited until after the movie's window to unveil the game and released it shortly thereafter.

In part I don't think they want people seeing things like powerups and features in the game which will be new that then aren't included in the movies, they want the movie first. IE: "Why Isn't Elephant Mario from the new Mario game in the Mario movie?". That sort of thing. As weird as it is I think Nintendo takes stuff like that seriously.

Galaxy movie in spring 2026 -- Mario 3D platformer in November 2026

Would be roughly the same pattern as Super Mario Movie in spring 2024 and Super Mario Wonder in October 2026.
