Forums - Politics - Do you consider yourself more left or right wing?

I am...

More left leaning 52 61.90%

More right leaning 32 38.10%

Total:84

Leaning left gave me superiority and I like it. Keeps me amused over right-wingers day by day.

One would think with 2x the population of the US not all top 7 tech companies would be from the US.

Funny how that works.

I stand by my stance.  Born in the US, lived in Europe and my love for the US simply grew.  More opportunity.

I simply have no interest in trading opportunity for social nets I don't need that require 40% income tax plus 20% VAT.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_public_corporations_by_market_capitalization

Edit

If the issue is verbiage I'm happy to use "leftist social policies" instead of socialism.  But regardless of terminology, my stance stands.

Been there, done that and no thanks.

To each their own.

If you, personally, not needing social safety nets is a reason for you to think they're useless, then yeah, you're right-wing. It also makes me think you're a horrible person. You know, as a society, we're kind of supposed to care for everyone living in that society, not just ourselves. I think that wild individualism is the real driver of right-wing politics. You can make someone destroy everyone around them if you convince them that they will personally benefit from it.

I'd rather live somewhere with no billionaires but a solid safety net than somewhere where billionaires thrive but people need to choose between going into crippling debt to get an education or live their entire lives struggling to pay for their next meal. If you've been convinced that you should give up on every right as a citizen and as a worker for the tending-towards-zero chance of becoming a billionaire, then you're as naïve as anyone.

You can think I'm a "horrible person" all day long.  I don't much care what strangers think of me.

And there is where right and left diverge.  Is isn't my responsibility to pay for someone else's family.  My family is my responsibility, which I take off.  Nobody pays for my family, I do.  I've already put four people through college.  I should pay for a 5th because reasons.  No thanks.

I believe in personal responsibility.

Edit

Also you want to talk about "naive."  There is a massive wide space between struggling to buy food and being worth billions.  I mean, lol.  Get serious.

I take it we couldn't interest you in moving considerably more north? What if we renamed it something like 'Area 51'?

There's a comedic white right version of this just waiting to be released...

I'm a Centrist.
Certain things such as finance and family I lean right.
Things like labour and working rights I lean left.

Most other things I think I'm moderate.

I feel like a lot of people in this thread, are clearly basing their politics on faulty generalizations.

"Europe is more left wing than America, and I think America is better, therefore I don't like left wing politics" - even if a lot of these policies are actually also right wing.

Oregon, despite being a "blue" state for example has a more conservative income tax system than almost every red state.

A lot of "left wing" states and countries have right wing policies - VAT for example isn't left wing.

A lot of right wing states and countries have left wing policies.

I'm not German, I'm your friendly western neighbor. I don't know much about AfD, but why are they considered rightwing? The Nazi's where socialist (it's in the name). Are AfD hardcore capitalist?

And North Korea is a Democratic Republic (it's in the name).

There are more Republicans than Democrats that use medicaid and other social safety nets.  I've seen a lot of republican voters that have asked for money on go fund me for various Cancers or accidents where their insurance and or social safety nets failed them.

I'm kind of in the middle but definitely come across as a right winger.

I'm pro gun rights, and will soon be CC'ing everywhere. I for clean energy and finding a business friendly solution to power. I'm for bio-frankenstein companies like monsanto because they will find solutions to give people more food, and feel that plastics and chemicals are a much worse alternative for people, anyway. I'm for making America as powerful as possible, and in most cases support what some would call imperialism. I'm for making america the world's policeman, although some wisdom should be used in doing so. I hate trump though, and i've never voted republican, only a few times for democrats.

I also do things that republicans don't like though, such as zen and meditation. I like the "woo". Most republicans would not be into that kind of thing although it isn't politics.

Social Democrat, which is center-left most of the time.
Just about the only issue I would probably be a right-winger on in a lot of countries is guns. I'm very much for gun control, but not as strict as Europe, Japan, or most countries.
The US Overton Window among politicians is so broken that I'd be pretty far to the left.
