I haven't played a game in weeks either. The heat wave burned me out on gaming and now that time slot I had for gaming has narrowed to nothing.

Usually it takes a game I've been looking forward to for a long time to get back into regular gaming, as in make time for gaming again. What also works is indeed some evergreen games. My go to for that is Puzzling Places and GT7.

But for now I'm fine reading LotR again (been over 35 years since first I read it) and catching up on TV shows. The movies really changed my memories of the book, nice to read them again and see what all I forgot.

Thanks for the replies folks, appreciated. Unfortunately I need a quick fix to this.

you can always just tell yourself that you aren’t burned out and eventually you’ll start to believe it. That’s worked very effectively for me lol and might be the quickest solution I can think of. You could also try playing MKWorld and realize how much of a masterpiece it is.

I'll try this. Trick myself into believing I'm already hooked on the game and addicted. This might just work.

Stay away from AAA games as much as you can. Guns, swords and anime girls in short skirts is all you get these days.

I guess I'm burned out on gaming entirely.

Dream sequel to Journey (10/10 game for me) just released and I can't get excited for it :/

It's free on PS+ Extra (don't have Extra) for anyone wanting to try it out. CAD 40 otherwise. ($30)

N'eer mind people. It's fruitless, it'll happen or not. I'll just keep trying to brute force into some games loop until one of the something sticks.

I just constantly switch games, so I don't get bored and burned out by them. I do regularly come back to them if I like them, though.

If I didn't switch games, I'd probably only game for about 5 hours or so a week. Most games, even good ones, can't command my attention for more than 3-5 hours a week.

Being married and having a kid ensures I'll never get burnt out now lol but back in my teenage days, whenever I felt like I was, I would go back to an older nostalgic game. Whether it was Donkey Kong Country, Crash Bandicoot, Emperor's New Groove (don't laugh) Warcraft 3, Unreal Tournament, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, etc. they would reinvigorate my love for gaming!

Emperor's New Groove is a decent platformer with a very nice soundtrack, nice to see someone else remembering it.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Yeah, you're right. Well, except for the get laid part, that's not happening. I'm giving up for now and should probably stop trying to put a square pegs in a round holes.

I just stop playing games full stop when I get burned out/fed up. I truly don’t enjoy video games that much these days so if I’m in that head space and try and force myself to play something I immediately get annoyed at the smallest things and just give up. Either that or play a bunch of 2-4hr games, different change of pace.
